Got my date today...October 22nd. Oh crap, that is soon! Have to lose 10 pounds by then too. If losing weight were so stinking easy, I wouldn't need the surgery. Oh well, wish me luck and I chug down my supper of Protein Shake (pinching nose)! Oh joy that I get to drink it all over again tomorrow morning

Hey Ladies! I have a quick question. The other night i got an email about a claim so i log in BCBS of Al site to find out they didn't pay for my Surgery consultation or Psychological testing stating it was not covered and the balance that I need to pay. Is this normal? My surgeon’s office told me all I needed to pay was my $40 copay.

Oh boy... This makes me nervous! I called and my psych was out of network so i know i'll be stuck with paying 40% of bill but I never asked about consult--figured it was just covered as a specialist appt. I have UHC though.

When I set up my Psych evaluation, they told me it would be $300 after they found out that I had BCBS. My statement said they covered 50% but there was a deductible to meet so it said I owed another $700! The psych did not expect that payment. They did it for the $300 flat fee. Yours may be a similar situation.

Humm? I did not have to take a psych evaluation. Wonder why some do if I didn't?

Surgery in one week....assuming I lose my pre-op weight by the, which I am at a standstill with :-(

BCBS didn't require it but my surgeon's office does. And they charge 600! :( BCBS says they will pay it only if I'my approved for surgery..

Yea the dr is giving me a reduced fee of self pay of 400 instead of his 600 fee since they won't pay till after I'm approved for surgery. He says he hates BCBS of AL. He said They are the only one that will only pay after approval and surgery. I'm going to be so upset if I pay all this money during the next few months and not get approved!

I am beginning to dislike BCBS of AL as well. I am looking at my husband's insurance which is Cigna. It is currently open enrollment and I am wondering if we should add his insurance, since they consider hyperlipidemia and arthritis as comorbidities. With my high cholesterol and degenerative disc disease, it sounds like they would cover. Not sure what the waiting period would be. Anybody have any idea?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
