Does anyone know where I can get fills in the Louisville area?

Recommended Posts

I have not been banded yet, but I am getting my ducks in a row. Looks like surgery is cheaper in Colorado, so I may look into that. If so, I will need to have follow-up care and fills done here where I live in the Louisville, Kentucky- southern Indiana area. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks...and I just love this website. It has been so helpful and a wealth of information on any topic pertaining to Lapband surgery!

HI, I haven't had my band yet....but I live in Ohio and was at my First Dr's appointment and we were talking about the fills and he said that a lot of the Dr's are unwilling to do another dr's patients. He said he didn't know for sure the reason, but said he will do fill's for anyone that comes to his office, which I thought was wonderful. His Office is in Miamisburg, Ohio. His name is Dr. David L. Schumacher. Kettering Bariatrics. 937-384-6808. I think it would take your around 2 hours to get there from that Part of Ky. Also check out there web site. www. ketteringbariatrics.com Hope this helps you out, if you can't find one closer to your home town. Keep in touch. Looks like we are close in age, and we both have not been banded yet...so when we do get our bands we can compare notes.

Thanks for the info Diva! I am not sure where Miamisburg is at so I will check it out! I am thinking about having the lapband done by the doctor in Denver mentioned elsewhere in the thread about US doctors. He does it for around 10,000.00. Since I will be self-pay...I want the best price but of course I also want a reputable doctor to do the surgery. It's not practical to fly to Denver whenever I need a fill or any other follow up care...so your doc may be a good alternative for me. I am still sorting through things and gathering information. I do not have a date in mind yet. Still a little chicken...but I will reach an answer for myself soon I am sure! I do want to keep in contact with you!

Just been reading your thread - I live in London England - so I can't help you - all I want to say is I am 51 years old and was banded seven months ago and It is the best thing I have done since having my kids - I feel great and I wish it had been about thirty years ago

I appreciate you responding cozzie. So glad to hear your experience with the surgery has been positive. I am still a bit chicken! I am probably about 75-80 pounds over weight of what I would like to be. As you get older...it seems harder to lose weight by conventional methods. I am starting to have trouble with foot pain, getting out of breathe quickly, and a few other minor ailments (minor compared to many other people) but I realize these ailments will only become worse and I am sure I will aquire new problems down the road if I don't do something soon. I also have 2 young grandkids that depend on me and I want to be around to help them!

If you are in Louisville, most definitely go to Dr. Trace Curry. He's only one hour from you and he's the surgeon who answers all of the questions on this forum. Just put his name in the search and you can read his posts. I could go to 3 doctors lots closer than him, as I'm a mexican patient, but I drive 5 hours each way to him. He is the best. He is fabulous and no I don't work for him. LOL. He is in Cincinatti and his office is attached to Deaconess Hospital. I just went to him Tuesday for my 3rd fill. You would love him I promise. He's speaking in Lexington next month. He's done thousands.

I will give you his website and all of his phone numbers are on there and you can give him a call. Tell him Sherri said hi if you choose to use him. He really is great.

Good luck, I wished he was as close to me as he is you, oh well, he's worth the drive.

thanks sherrijo! I will look into it! Just wondering, how was your experience in Mexico? It sounds fairly safe and all, but what if you had some type of problem with the surgery once you got home? Did they offer any advice should that happen? That would prolly be the one thing to stop me from having it done down there. Hey sherri...what part of Kentucky?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
