Is My Stomach Holding Too Much?

Recommended Posts

So I started soft foods today - and started out with some mashed potatoes.

I bought the cheap microwave potatoes that you just add Water too - added a little more Water so they were not super thick

They were SO good.

But...I just sort of think my stomach is holding more than I thought it would.

I really thought I would have a few bites and be full. I was able to eat half of the container; probably about 1 cup - until I stopped myself - just in case - and gave the rest to my three year old.

Is this normal?

Like I said, I really thought my new stomach wouldn't hold 1 cup at a time.

Is it because its soft foods - or should I be concerned?

Thanks!

I was also able to hold a bit more with soft foods. Potatoes will slide thru easier which is why they get limited once you move to solids.

I was told to start with some kind of Protein first. chicken salad, pimento cheese, cottage chesse. Something that's going to give sustained energy. I can eat cheese and Peanut Butter as well. Potatoes, chips, crackers should be avoided as much as possible. I've found this things make me want more of them and carbs are horrible for me

Once you start eating Protein you will feel the restriction, mashed potatoes are defiantly a slider food.

My doctor said my stomach should hold 4 ounces (about 1/2 a cup) he said it will stretch if I eat more than that at a time. I've seen every doctor says something different but I'm happy with it. What does your doctor say?

I'm also 3 weeks out. Today I made shredded pork for the family and decided to throw some in the blender- I was nervous to eat meat. I was hungry too and it smelled so good. I probabaly had 2-3 ounces an was stuffed-

Eat Protein first :-) funny because I had all these big plans to eat cottage cheese after or something with it anyway. No can do. Eating SF Popsicle a half hour later to satisfy my sweet craving. I want a candy bar!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
