I'm 3 weeks post- surgery and just started a 2-week pureed diet. The guidelines are pretty much baby food consistency. I tried some of the jarred baby food meats (turkey, chicken and beef) and there is simply NO WAY I can eat that - even with spices/seasoning added. Also tried pureeing tuna and chicken myself - just can't deal with the consistency.

My question is - are all Proteins the same as far as your body is concerned? If I get the Protein recommended at this stage (60 grams minimum) does it matter if it's from dairy sources, Protein powder or Beans instead of pureed meat?

Seems to me that it wouldn't matter, but I'd appreciate input from anyone who knows more about this than I do (and that's pretty much anyone :)

I know a couple people in my support group that are vegetarian and vegan, i know they got all of there Protein from non meat sources, they talk about lots of Beans. I do know 1 of them at 17 months out still drinks 1 Protein Drink to make sure she gets all her protein.

I am at 3 months and enjoy 2 Protein Shakes a day, one when I get up and one when I go to bed. I drink them to ensure that my metabolism keeps grinding away, but they also taste good. If you are looking for a good brand, go with Syntrax. Both their nectar and matrix product lines are yummy with milk or with Water.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
