Realistic Monthly Goals For The First 6 Months

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what is a realistic monthly goal for the first 6 months? I know we shouldn't compare ourselves to others, but I am a person who has to plan and analyze. In the past, working out 5 days a week on a 1500-1800 calorie diet, I would lose 10 pounds a month. Working out 5 days a week on 700-900 calorie diet, is a 15 pound loss a month realistic? I know it's slower if you're close to goal, but I'm nowhere close. Thanks for any answers.

Personally, I'm breaking it down by week, my minimum goal is -2 lbs a week, my optimal goal is -3.5 lbs a week. If on average there are 4 weeks in a month thats a range of -8 to -14 lbs a month. So I don't think you are that far off at all. :)

I'm 4 1/2 months out and I'm down 70 pounds. I've noticed the past two months my weight loss seems to have slowed a bit. I think realistically, 10 pounds a month is great. I know that some people lose more but this is average for most. I'm not liking it at all either!

8-10 lbs a month is a realistic goal. Just remember the slower you lose, the less saggy skin!

I agree too that in the first few months, when you see a greater weight loss then set your goal high!! For the next four weeks I have set my goal to lose 20 pounds, I am 3 weeks out.

Well, I'm hoping for 20 pounds a month, but I'll be happy with 15. I was able to lose 10 pounds a month with exercise and dieting before the surgery, so I was hoping for higher.

For me I go swimming once a week, other than walking around my house and I am currently redecorating I do nothing else but arm weights.

I don’t calorie count, don’t carb count don’t weight myself even once a week so dividing my weight loss over 20 weeks then xing by 4 for months I am doing 25.6lbs a month.

Don’t actually know my current weight so that could work out to more as I am smaller than when I last went hospital/docs and was weighted lol

Not suggesting anyone do as I do but it works for me I started out a lot bigger also I think bigger peeps lose a lot faster to start.

the difference between losing 10 lbs back when before surgery - is that those 10 lbs eventually came back

with the help of the sleeve, and your hard work - weight should not be regained

good luck

I keep reminding myself of that when I get anxious about not exercising enough. Thanks

My dr and NUT said 2-4 pounds a week is what to look for...so 8-16 pounds a month.

I think it will vary but I'm 11 weeks tomorrow and have lost 10# already in the past 3 weeks....about 40# since surgery...so average of 3.5# a week. I completely understand wanting to know how much loss to expect. I'm am all about tracking & predicting my loss (even though I don't have total control).

This surgery is an amazing tool and so glad I did it!!!
