LindafromFlorida 1,542 Posted April 20, 2014 Nice post Gman. You are always counting your blessings. We have a work ethic that cannot be taught. I too, thank God I can breathe now without grabbing those asthma inhalers that did not seem to work anyway. Happy Easter to you and your family, and everyone here. 1 gmanbat reacted to this
ktwilldoit 2 Posted April 22, 2014 I'm hoping to find a fellow 60+ sleever here. Today marks DAY 1 of my two week pre-surgery liquid diet. My surgery date is May 5th. I've told my friends to raise a glass for me and Cinco de Mayo! This is my second time with all liquids. Back in February I was just two days away from my surgery date and the hospital cancelled the surgery because my thyroid numbers were out of whack. I brought the numbers back in place in 4 weeks and then had to wait again for a surgery date. I'll be 63 days after the surgery and I hope all this waiting will pay off. I'm always reading posts of success stories and then find out so many of them are from people 30 and under. I know I'll never have a great figure. It's been stretched out for most of my life! I just want to be healthier and possibly be without so many of my current problems. I look forward to being able to be more active and be able to experience old activities and a lot of new ones too. Is anyone else in this same boat? 2 mem1 and LindafromFlorida reacted to this

carstanger 346 Posted April 22, 2014 You can do this! I'm 17 months out and now 67. I can do so much more. I walked 2 different 5 k's and cut time together ! I like Water aerobics better!! The doctor has dropped my meds for high blood pressure and cholesterol and the supplements. I started at 225.5 and am now 122.8. The biggest difference is clothes.. I'm proud of what I have accomplished! It is not easy but one day at a time!!! Keep in touch!! 2 LindafromFlorida and Finally17 reacted to this

BeagleLover 1,020 Posted April 25, 2014 63 here. We are not too old. We have just had longer to ingrain our habits than the young'ns. Speed eating was a problem for me, too. When you have brothers the fastest gets the mostest. The key is concentration while eating, talking or watching TV can throw you off. You must be my "other brother!" It was like that in our house too... my brother was "quick on the draw." He got the mostest! 1 gmanbat reacted to this
K33 87 Posted May 5, 2014 9 mos out for 63 yo 1 LindafromFlorida reacted to this
K33 87 Posted May 5, 2014 I thought it only fair to give everyone an update. My surgery was August 5th 2013. up until the day of my surgery, I gave myself permission to back out anytime. my surgeon was excellent, my recovery was flawless, and I managed to stay on the ridiculous trail of liquid mushy hat we must all consume so that our stomachs will heal around months four, which coincided with my ability to eat normal food, my weight loss stalled. Well,.l not exactly a stall more like a stop. I enjoyed being able to eat again then around months 7 I realized my 1 year was approaching faster than I had anticipated.I panicked that I was sacrificing my window of opportunity to lose wt for sense pleasure. once I started eating Protein, drinking enough Water at only the appropriate times as well 20min walks until I started to sweat, I dropped more wt in 10 days than I had durinf the prior 3 mos. Once I saw the magic returning, I really committed. I believe our journey requires us to reconnect many times along our path. Today I had 1/2 a slice of Apple pie. when I eat too fast and forget I have a small stomach., my stomach actually hurts. I have been tolerating a sore stomach for so long that I figured that's just the way it is. but when I followed the ritual of Protein first then fuits or vegetables, and pay attention to my stomach, I don't overeat and I don't have pain. Oh, I have released 80 # from the start of my journey. 60# since surgery, and hope for 10 to 15 # in tje next 3 mos and will be satisfied. 3 LindafromFlorida, Finally17 and nonnilynn reacted to this

padremama 101 Posted June 11, 2015 I love this thread. We teens of the 1960's are still behaving radically and shaking up the status quo by having WLS "at our age." And as one kind member reminded me, we still have 30 years to go! I absolutely love "teens of the 1960's" That is going to be my new saying.
altteach 8 Posted December 26, 2015 I'm 61 and got sleeved 12/21/2015. I have been thinking about this for a long long time. I never have really taken time for myself to a large degree, but I finally said, "MY TIME." I'm doing pretty good, but am developing an upper respiratory infection. (I can taste it when I spit up). I'm worried now if I can take an antibiotic or not being newly sleeved.
jboris12 4 Posted March 2, 2016 My name is Judy, and I am 61. I had my the Gastric Sleeve surgery on November 5, 2015 and am almost four month post op. I have gone from 207 to 186 and have been holding at that weight for some time now. My biggest problem is hunger at night. I want sweets! That part of me is a bad habit from a child and has not changed. As soon as I sit in front of a television, Snacks pop into my head. Even though I have had the surgery, I have to keep in mind to exercise and watch my carbs. I did the best thing every and joined an aqua fitness class, twice a week and it is fantastic! I don't thing you are ever too old to care about your health, as long as it is monitored by a doctor. 1 Finally17 reacted to this
Oneyearout 43 Posted February 20, 2017 Totally agree with all of you. One year out this month. 62 years old, passed my weight goal, lost 100 lbs. didn't want to tell anyone but hubby till after surgery. Feeling great. I too have trouble at night wanting to eat. I have to make a serious effort NOT to buy that stuff. Not anything Snacks unless it's celery, carrots fresh veggies. My only dessert is sugar free pop cycles 15 cal only. Best thing I ever did. I have started writing everything I put in my mouth down, that seems to help. I would love to hear how you all are doing since you have been on this journey longer then myself. Keep up the good work! 1 Finally17 reacted to this
