Yeah, that is my number 1 struggle post-op. I am really bad at eating slow. However, I never overeat for the sleeve because I measure out correct quantities. I do slime often.

My surgeon wants me to take a bite every 10 minutes. I don't practice this but really need to slow down. I am a believer that my sleeve can stretch if pushed too far. There is so much controversial on this topic that I chose to play it safe and work on measuring my portions out. I do slime every now and then just a little. :)

We have to change our habits. For me, I'm sure it was one of the reasons I was overweight. I inhaled my food. If we are going to make a change, we have to make a change. Change is hard and it takes time, but just keep trying.

I force myself to put my utensil down after each bite. It slows me down.

Well I am going to brag a little but because I am a revision(band to sleeve) this is really easy for me. I had to do it with the band and the longer you do it it becomes second nature. Yes your food gets cold, sometimes you have to re-heat, it is what it is!

Why do I eat so fast??? .

SleeveShelly

"old habits die hard"

you might have/probably ate fast in the good ol' days?

its hard, but we must change our eating time/habits with the sleeve. thats one reason the sleeve helps us. tummy doesn't have much room to eat alot, and if you/I eat too fast - you, i feel sick.

Pre-surgery - i also "inhaled" my food, like the plate was gonna be taken away from me soon, so i better hurry up and eat.

since the food/plate was never removed, i could get a second helping

no need to hurry, i won't take your plate away ;)

take a bite of food, put your fork/spoon down., relax

chew, take a sec/2-3 minutes, and continue to eat slllllowly

it will take practice, but i have confidence in you that you will do great :)

good luck

I have found that as I eat slowly, the food gets cold and is therefore unappetizing! It's easier to say I've had enough and walk away from cold food!

This is something I am not sure about. What is the purpose of eating slowly? I don't eat slowly, but perhaps I should be.

I don't overeat, get too full, or take in too many calories. I eat about 700 calories per day. I eat, am satisfied after six or eight bites, and that's the end of that. I weigh or measure everything before eating.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
