Liquid Pre-Op Question

Recommended Posts

I am awaiting my insurance approval so I'm not to far in the process. That said, no one has told me about a 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Is this standard, or do you think it varies by patient or doctor? Thank you'

It varies by doctor, it's not an insurance thing.

You'll find if you stick around here that every surgeon has their own plan -- some very strict, some very liberal, some pretty average. The 2 week pre-op liquid seems relatively standard.

Also if you stick around, you'll see people swear by their doctor's plan like the bible "You ate WHAT at 2 weeks post surgery???!?!?" so don't let the different plans confuse you.

My doc required it. The purpose is to lose some of the fat around your liver (provides easier access to the stomach during surgery as the liver is somewhat "in the way." The duration may depend on your pre-op weight and other factors as well. I know some docs require longer and some require shorter.

The first couple of days weren't much fun, but it really wasn't as bad as you might think....... And the end result will be worth it :)
