Stick to your docs plans. The sugar free popcicles really helped me. Are you on a PPI? Someone on these boards said that would help controll your hunger early on too.

The hunger can be acid. In addition to the PPI, you may also want to take an anti-acid everyday. I was feeling hungry and just added a PPI today. Hopefully it will help. It's important to stick to the diet your surgeon gave you so that heal correctly. It's NOT easy - but guess no one ever said it would be...... :) It WILL get better!!!!

Ppi is proton pump inhibitor, Prilosec is one helps with acid in the stomach

An anti-acid will help with existing acid (my doc recommends 1/day for 6 weeks). A PPI will help prevent the acid from forming in the first place. Sometimes both are used, sometimes only one or the other. I'd check with your doc. The doc and his staff are there to help you. My doc's staff has been AWESOME about answering my questions and providing support.

I still think a lot of it is head hunger and i'm having very specific cravings. and what is a PPI If i can ask? becasue I might just need to start doing that lol Thanks all for the good info on this post!

Watch the MSG's in the food you eat. Some people like me are really sensitive to eat and it really adds to head hunger. It is all Soups, salad dressing, some cheese and most all processed food, and restaurant food. I cut all out that I could and really started reading food labels. Head hunger disappeared and I rarely get hungry now.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
