Husband Is Concerned With Me Going To Mexico

Recommended Posts

Dr. Alvarez in Piedras Negras is an amazing surgeon. They transport you from San Antonio airport to Eagle Pass and then across the border into MX the next morning. It is a safe border town to be in. They transport you back to San Antonio after you are released and put you in a nice hotel there. Watch the YouTube videos by Dr. Alvarez on you tube or Endobariatrics.com

My husband was totally impressed with him, and that is something that does not happen often. My husband slept in my room at the hospital and was with me constantly. Hope you can work it out so your husband is not nervous about it. You get really great care in Mexico.

I wasn't comfortable with my sister going by herself . . . major surgery alone in Mexico? No. So I went with her. That was July. I was so impressed with her experience I went back myself (sis went with me) for the surgery! It really is too good to be true; but they can do more with less money in Mexico.

My advice is when you settle on a dr., start reading everyone's experiences. chances are your experience will be similar and you'll know more about what to expect.

My dad felt the same way. He is a lawyer (aka paid paranoid) and a total worry wart. I asked him to accompany me to Mexicali for my surgery with Dr Aceves. He was VERY skeptical at first. In fact, he insisted on going to down there and touring the hospital and interviewing Dr Aceves before I paid te deposit. He came back from that visit more excited about surgery than I was! He felt so confident - it was really encouraging to me.

Our experience in Mexico was superb, even better than I planned. I think your spouse has every right to worry about you, but really I think he'll be impressed with the experience. If he has questions or concerns encourage him to contact the hospital / surgeon!

I had the same surgery date & surgeon as Frza and agree with her completely. I work in hospitals for a living and I can honestly say the hospital I stayed at was cleaner than any I've been to in the Vegas area. My territory is 5 hospitals. Also, Dr Aceves has more sleeve experience than all the gastric sleeve docs in this area put together.

The staff is so friendly and helpful too. When Frza and I wanted to go to the pharmacy across the street, the nurse insisted on going with us to help guide us as the traffic can be tricky. We were treated like VIPS from airport pickup to airport drop-off. I would recommend Dr Aceves and his staff to anyone, no reservations.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
