Husband Is Concerned With Me Going To Mexico

Recommended Posts

My husband has been reading the forums so he can get on board with me having the sleeve in Mexico. He said he had seen nothing but positive things. He thinks it sounds to good to be true. Does anybody have any words of comfort I can give him or any advice so he will be comfortable with me having the surgery there

Hmmmm, he says it sounds too good, how do you say something to make too good better? Should I say something bad??

i was sleeved by Dr. Aceves in Mexico almost a year ago. I have had no problems, 100 pounds down and am a size 11/12. His staff is very courteous and professional. I would do it over in a heartbeat.Good Luck!

I completely understand, I thought that too. But I read and read the reviews. Of course my husband was skeptical because he is a cop and is very concerned for my safety. I just got home on Tuesday. Everything was fine. You aren't going to travel off the normal route. You will be too tired, at least I was. I registered with the American Consulate. You don't got through the "bad areas" where you live, right? You won't go through any bad areas in Mexico. I went to Puerto Vallarta.

I think he is just concerned about it because it is in Mexico. You know how at home you can meet your dr first and then make an opinion of whether you like them or not. I think the unknown about having it in Mexico scares him. He wants me to have the surgery and I know he will get on board but I told him I would get people's opinions on it first. Thanks so much for sharing.

I had a revision on Sept 10th they will look after you. It is like any other city. The Doctors are awesome and they are really skilled when it comes to this surgery, more times over than doctors in the U.S. I wish you well with your surgery!

I have friends and family that are doctors and nurses and not to knock them, but I got better medical care in Mexico than I do here at home in Louisiana.....

I had my surgery on April 16th with Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana. I've lost 95 lbs and I feel amazing... I come from a medical family, Dad is a Doctor, Mom is a retired nurse and my sister is a nurse practitioner. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made and best money I have ever spent. My insurance has exclusions for WLS so Mexico was really my only option. I had researched for YEARS and Mexico has some of the best Bariatric surgeons in the world. My Dr. has actually trained a lot of the US Doctors on the various WL procedures so I wasn't nervous a single second. He practices in an International Center of Excellence and his facility rivals some of the top US hospitals.... I never once second guessed my decision!

Good Luck!!

My husband solved the problem of his fears by going with me. He was almost embarrassed at how nice everything was...and that was Tijuana. I'm still glad he went with me for moral support. Is there any way your husband can go with you, or could you travel with a friend or family member. It's just nice to know someone's watching out for you when you aren't feeling your best.

My husband will go with me but he was just wanting more information because the unknown is scary. I appreciate everyone's stories and hopefully I can have the surgery in the next couple of months.

I was going to go by myself, but my best friend insisted on going with me. I'm so GLAD she did go. What a helping hand she was. I can't imagine doing it again without her.

Another great thing about Dr. Aceves, he has a driver that picked me up at the airport and drove me to my hotel room that night and picked me up for surgery the next morning. He also took me back to the airport on the trip back home, which was a few days after surgery. I didnt have to worry about where to go and driving. It was awesome.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
