Got My Date - Nov 6

Recommended Posts

I got my surgery date - November 6. The weird thing is that I turned in all my stuff to the surgeon's office for insurance approval & they told me that they would "call my insurance to verify my coverage" and they'd get back to me in about 2 weeks with a surgery date - because coordinating through the hospital would take that long. IDK everyone on here was so worried about insurance approval and all my surgeon's office did was call to verify coverage. I guess it's just that they work with BCBS so much that they know what they need for approval. IDK.

Anyway - my endoscopy is next Tuesday Oct. 2 and then I have an appt. with my PCP on Oct. 23 to be cleared for surgery & in the p.m. my appt. with the surgeon's nutritionist for my nutrition class and to get all my stuff for the 2 week pre-op diet which I'll start 10-24.

I think some doctors just aren't as worried about the size of the liver. I had my gallbladder removed laporascopically in 96 and I didn't have to do any type of liquid diet to shrink the liver beforehand & the gallbladder literally sits completely under the liver.

I agree...I think the doctors only give us these 2 week liquid fasts to give us a jump start to losing weight. I have an appointment on the 17th of this month and I will be asking : ) I'm not against it but wont be so worried if I cave in and eat something LOL!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
