I took 2 weeks off. I am a nurse and work 7p-7a. I could have used another week.

I had surgery on 9/14 and was back at work on 9/25. I didn't have anymore paid leave I could use so I figured I'd just do my best. I'm a surgical nurse and work 12 hour shifts on my feet and was AMAZED I was totally ok. Seriously I wear a pedometer at work and I walk average 7 miles/shift! I start my shift at 10am and work til 11pm 3 days/week.. but by 3pm I WAS pretty tired that first week but I'd go drink some Protein Shake and then I was fine. Also I am fortunate to work in a university teaching hospital so there are tons of med students and residents around because I couldn't lift anything heavy LOL

I was really lucky though because I had no post op pain after that first night and I haven't had any nausea since anesthesia. Also I've been able to get in all my Protein and Water, which is SO important to have energy! I'm SO grateful I've been ok back at work because I literally couldn't take any more time off :P

My surgery was last Tuesday 9/25 and I'm back at work today 10/1. I'm cheating though because I'm working from home this week. :)

I also work from home but the first two weeks, I really did not feel like "working"... I would get tired and trying to "eat" and drink the 40+ ounces of fluid...? It was it's own distraction lol... This is the first week I have felt really 100%...

It's funny how people react so differently to the surgery! My wife was sleeved at the end of July and she has just really gotten back to being herself in the last 2-3 weeks. I think (hope) I'll be in pretty good shape within the next couple of weeks. I was up and moving around within a couple of hours of moving to my room after surgery and I haven't had any issues so far with getting my liquids in. I change to full liquids tomorrow and I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! I'm still taking my pain meds though so that I'm able to stay mobile without any problems.

Surgery was 9/20 and today I hurt more than I did a week ago. My FMLA papers arrived in the mail and I am surprised to find that Dr. Kim has me going back to work on 10/10. I am not looking forward to getting on a plane and being gone from home for 4 or 5 days at a time. I was expecting at least 4 weeks.

We will see how it goes.

I took two weeks off and enjoyed the second week at home but I could have gone back after the first week if I had too. I have a desk job.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
