When Did You Return Back To Work Post Op?

Recommended Posts

My surgery was 9/19. I was allowed to drive 5 days later providing I wasn't using pain meds. I'm a single mom and had to get back to driving. I've been walking. Feel good. In constant touch with work through emails. My two week f/up appt is 10/4. I'm hoping to be released back to work as I feel good and for economic reasons. When did you return back to work?

I gave myself 4 weeks. When I got back to work and was still tired, I was glad I did. If I had absolutely had to, I could have gone back at the beginning of week 3.

I went back to work a week after surgery. I wish I would've taken 2 only because by mid afternoon I was exhausted. :)

I took 5 days off. I would say it depends on the type of job you have. If it is a desk job you can most likely go back sooner than if you are on your feet all day.

I took 2.5 weeks off and they worked a few short days to ease back in. Tiredness was my biggest complaint once back to work.

I took off two weeks but I could have been back in a week. I had my surgery on a Wednesday and was running around by that same Saturday.

It was three days for me and that was way too soon, even for a desk job. While I certainly don't envy you with what you are attempting you can probably do it. Try and get some more help and take it easy for at least a few weeks.

We all wish you the best, let us know your progress!

I have four weeks off. I am still tired and having pain in my left side. Much better than I was last week but know that this fourth week will have me in much better shape to fully be able to do my job. I think my age has slowed the healing process. 20 years ago when I had my gallbladder out I was in great shape after about 8 days, this had been a slower process for sure!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
