Southern California Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hey guys anyone out there in the So. Calif area that would like to get a Support Group going? I know there is a support group that meets in Orange County but how about getting one closer to maybe the Los Angeles Area? Some people will go to both and some will go to one or the other. We could have annual Bandsters Conferences down the line with guest speakers and the like.

I am willing to work with someone to set up the meetings and get them up and running.

Let me hear from you guys out there.

I know the San Diego bandsters meet on the 2nd Sunday of the month, and the OSCB's meet on the 3rd Sunday of the month, so it might be good to not pick one of those days to increase your participation pool.

At lot of the OSCB people are meeting junkies, and a couple have even driven down to SD to attend our meeting if they've missed theirs and need a fix. A couple of the SD'ers drive up to the OSCB meeting each month as well.

The more meetings the merrier! I think there are a LOT of people in your area, so you may want to mention it on smartbandsters, bandsters, and gradbandsters as well.

Donali,

I applied to graduate bandsters and they emailed me a list of criterias I had to meet to join. I knew instantly I wouldn't qualify and don't think Penni will either. There was something about having had the band at least 6 months, had a 50 lb weight loss and a certain number of fills. Maybe you and Penni could colaborate to get a post on that site. T

Sorry, I always forget there are criteria. I thought it was just 6 months, though - sheeezzz, they're getting so exclusive.

Penni I will post your SoCal post to the grad board.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
