Verizon Cell Phone Service In Tj? Help!

Recommended Posts

I'll be in TJ, what is the best and most economical way to use cell phones in Mexico? Are you charged for roaming even if you don't answer your calls? and what about texting?

You should call Verizon. I know that when I visit family in Mexico, I'm not allowed to text/call people lol my mother can be very cheap... Sorry for not being very helpful :/

When I was in TJ I could not get service on the streets or the clinic but the clinic had a vonage phone with a US # we could use and our family could use to call us. After we left the clinic the next day after surgery we stayed at the Hotel Ticuan for 2 nights and we could hit a US tower while up in our room on the 6th floor but we were only 2 miles from the border. I would also recommend you call Verizon. I had Tmobile pre-paid.

What type of phone do you have? If it is a smartphone then you should be able to turn off international roaming. Make sure you do this, because international roaming rates ar astronomical. 1email can cost you $15, and your phone uses data every few minutes to check for emails. And toe, you will be charged for incoming text messages.

So I will say again turn your international roaming off. Download google talk, or talkatone, or Skype and use them on wifi. Also you might get an American tower depending on where exactly you are.

I put my Verizon Thunderbolt into airplane mode and then turned WIFI on at the same time and my bill was exactly the same as any other month. I only txt'd with my husband and another sleever who was there with me. I am unsure if putting myself in airplane mode did the international thing that OTR is advising , but I/it must have done something like that because I did get any emails till I got back over the boarder. Then again I told everyone I know I was going out of town for a week and they should leave me alone

I have Verizon. They let you prorate the international plan. I think I did five days and my bill was maybe only an extra $10 that month. If you don't do this you will get charged $0.05 per incoming text and $0.50 per outgoing text. Not sure what the rate is for data and calls but I'm sure it's high.

Yes, airplane mode turns off all cellular connections, the only real difference is if you just turn off international roaming you still have a chance of grabbing an American tower.

I have Verizon. You could call them and add a plan that covers you while you are there. I think it was 25 dollars or so. But I just opted to use skpye for calling and using the wi-fi for internet. you can indeed turn the phone on airplane mode and just connect to the hotel wifi... no roaming charges will incur.

Thanks everyone for posting and bringing up some options I hadn't thought of. My phone is a business phone, paid for by my employer so adding an international plan to that phone was not an option. But my husband is self employed and has 2 phones, so I'm borrowing one of his and adding a limited international plan. Thanks again everyone.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
