What exactly is the definition of a slider food? Is it something you can eat easily? I am starting to think that my Power Crunch bar is a slider food. I could eat 3 or more a day.

Ok....so the Protein Bar isnt a slider food, it's just a temptation that needs to be closer monitored. :(

Sliders can also be healthy low calorie fruits and veg (some of them at least,) which is useful for adding nutrition to your diet with minimal caloric impact. My capacity is about 3 oz of most meats, but if I cut that back to 2 oz, I can add in another 4-5 oz of various salad veg for similar satisfaction, and likewise with various veg and meat stews and stir fries. This works well once you are to the point where your Protein intake is under control and fairly reliable and predictable.

No it doesn't have to be something that melts, and you were right the first time, it is a food that doesn't fill you up. For me it is Cheez Its and I'm starting to the the Oh Yeah Protein Bars are a slider for me. Bummer, but really lean Protein fills me up the best.

I thank all of you for helping explain this to me. Rick, i like your idea of using slider food in positive ways. I'm going to keep that in mind.

BTB, yeah, i think you are right. Darnnit!! I'll bet all my lost pounds that the Protein bar has become a trigger food. I had the munchies like crazy today & I've been craving the bars. I worked SO hard to get rid of triggers pre-surgery. I haven't been craving anything till now. Double darn. :( Thanks for catching this.

I had to cut way back on Protein bars, especially those delicious Power Crunch bars because they are so tasty but high in calories. I have an Atkins almond crunch day break bar for Breakfast some mornings and that gives me 10 grams of Protein at 150 calories and 3 net carbs.

Crackers became a slider food for me. If I could limit myself to a handful with lunch that would be one thing, but they would be calling me from the cupboard....and I could eat them all day long without feeling full, so I just stopped buying them. Anything that is a "munchie" food like chips/crackers/sweets is probably a slider, goes down easy and you start eating them compulsively.

I replaced my snacking with olives & string cheese and it fills me up, so I am giving my body the food it needs and it stops the cravings.

Good luck on your journey!!

I made a thread about this a while back, but here is why chips are such a slider food. If you crunch them up they take up very little room in your stomach. Try running a bag of them through the blender and see how small they get.....like I did.

Thanks for the explanation between a slider and a trigger. An excellent reminder!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
