I had no abdominal pain at all. I had a little bit of discomfort in my shoulder/armpit area from the gas they use to inflate your abdomen. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being high-it was a 2.

Immediately after surgery it was gas pain up to my chest and back, rated at 6 out of 10 being worst. Then up until 2 weeks it was abdominal muscle pain due to incisions, more nagging discomfort especially when you want to sleep on your stomach.

it really depends on the individual I think. I haven't had pain meds since 6 am on day 1 post surgery. the gas pain in the shoulders was really annoying and uncomfortable. Everything else for me so far has been tolerable.

I did end up with excessive bleeding and blood transfusion of 2 units though. just busted back out of hospital today at lunch time.

I am bloated and bruised and hungry.

I only had a little pain in the hospital. I would say it was about 6 at the worst. They would give me pain meds to take care of it and it was never a problem. I was so pleased with how well things went. It was much easier than I thought it would be. I walked into the hospital with a positive attitude and that was a huge help! I am 3 weeks out and feeling GREAT!!

I'm 3 days post op and have sharp pain (maybe gas) every time I drink something and also when I have a long conversation.

I had my sleeve on Monday and right now the only time I am in pain is when I am in transition from sitting to standing or moving around when laying in bed... My stomach is very tender above the incisions and there is a sharp pain when I swallow.. But I think that is because my swallows are too big.. I am working on sipping... Oh and there is pain around the drainage tube hole.... I can not wait to get rid of this thing!!!!

I agree that it is individual. I was very pleased with the way things went. I had almost no pain at all-used no pain meds at home & was out walking around my neighborhood the very next day.

I'm 3 days out and the gas pain and acid reflux is the worst. Not so much incision pain. Hurts to drink still.

I'm five weeks out. I really only had the gas pain when I used the spirometer ( a little plastic device you breathe into to keep the lungs clear.) It hurt in my left eye socket! After that, it was mainly tenderness from the incisions. However, be aware that you will have stiches in the muscles where the largest incision is done on the left side. As you start moving around more, they will pull and burn, especially when getting in and out of a car. The stitches dissolve in four to six weeks and then you should be good to go!

I'm 5 weeks out too!

Am slowly starting to exercise. Had to wait & must start slowly due to other factors. Anyway. My muscles are sore from exercise but my surgery area feels normal....until I sneezed last nite. Holy Toledo!! My left side pulled and pinched and I felt like i was back in day 1!!! Then nothing....i'm fine now. So even after 5 weeks there's still some healing and stitch dissolving going on in there.

I am 3 days post op and I would rate my pain as being very controlled by meds right now 2 out of 10. The gas for me is more annoying rather than painful. Last night was my first night home and my stomach sounds kept waking me up!

You will find that your stomach makes ALOT of noise, especially after eating on the pureed stage. Don't know if anyone else can hear it but it is loud! I must have alot more fat in my abdomen than most as where the incisions are never hurt or pulled or pinched or anything. It was all very minor. I have been walking & riding the exercise bike & all is good! I hope to start back to Zumba at the 1 month post-op mark! I weighed at the surgeons office yesterday & I have lost 20 lbs in 3 weeks!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
