Yep that sounds like me. I was hungry for the first couple of weeks, but then I found out that it was acid in my stomach and started taking my omeprazole. And a few days later, it was gone. :)

I would inquire with your surgeon - that is unusual, I would think...

Also, I agree with NDN_RN...it could be acid. Inquire to get a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) like Prilosec.

Healing pains also mimic hunger pains as well as acid reflux or gas. Your brain cannot differentiate between these at this point.

The entire length of your stomach was cut from bottom to top. If you cut your finger, or stub your toe, it throbs, imagine the throbbing your stomach is doing. Your insides and outsides of your entire stomach is swollen and it takes about 6-8 weeks to completely heal. I know it feels like hunger pains, I can guarantee you it's healing pains or acid reflux though.

Once you realize what this is, it is easier to deal with. As a little test, use your medicine one ounce shot glass, drink three or four in a row and you most likely will feel quite full.

Best of luck and remember every day is better than the day before.

It is actually normal to feel hungry right after surgery. You still have the hunger hormone all over your body, and unfortunately, it takes a few weeks for the hormone to run out. Give it some time. It will pass.

I was "hungry" the evening of surgery. They told me its not unusual but usually happens few days out. My stomach was actually growling

I have always felt hungary since my sleeve, I am almost 3 months post op and its gotten a lot easier. I do still take my prilosec and it helps. Sorry, it does suck! It will get better.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
