Sleeved August 13! Acid Reflux Anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hi all! Been sleeved for exactly 6 weeks today! I've been eating soft foods for about 4 weeks, but I started integrating soft chicken and that seems to give me a lot of reflux. Reflux is my only side effect but its pretty uncomfortable - constantly having acidic and sour taste. Anyone else feeler same?

Are you on anything for acid reflux? I was on a prescription for the first six weeks after my surgery, but I don't normally have acid reflux, so I no longer take it.

If you don't have a prescription for acid reflux, you should ask your doctor to give you one. It can help.

Hey! Yes I am - on Pariet 2x a day. But anyway the reflux isn't regular, seems to be triggered by certain foods. What are you eating right now?

I eat mostly Protein, and I still drink Protein shakes. I like chicken (lots of chicken), cheese, Greek yogurt, Jerky and venison. I also eat the Protein Bars. I don't eat a lot of veggies or fruit because I don't usually have room for them.

I'm a year out though, so I can eat pretty much anything. I don't though. I am still avoiding breads and most carbs.

I am still pre-op. I anticipate having to take something like Prilosec the rest of my life. My experience with excess stomach acid is the following: excess stomach acid caused sinus infections, caused my ears to stop up (and reduced my ability to hear), affected my voice and overall quality of life. Stomach acid can be a very big problem. It is important to treat it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
