Leg Cramps - Is It Common?

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I notice that after surgery I sometime woke up in the morning from the leg cramps. the pain is bad and I need to massage my leg for 5-7 min and try to walk on it before it goes away. First I think it is cold and this is reaction to it. but it wasn't cold at all today and I wake up again with leg cramp,

Does anyone has the same issue? what to do with it? Should I worry and call the doctor?

I experienced the same right after surgery. I was told to drink more Water. You can also possibly be lacking potassium.

Try drinking some coconut Water. Great low cal source for potassium. Just dont get the sweetened stuff.

I checked the coconut Water it has the lowest 11g of sugar. Is it ok to drink?

I had leg cramps the first 2 weeks. My Dr said completely normal. It's from the gases & position they put you in from surgery. I am 3 weeks post op & my leg cramps sent away. Take a Tylenol, it will help.

Don't use it as a substitute for Water, but a can every other day won't hurt.

I would really watch for dehydration. You might also try adding a little gatorade low cal for the electrolytes and stuff. I would also give your surgeon's office a call. It wouldn't hurt. :)

I notice that if I don't drink enough Water then I wake with some minor leg cramps and then I really up the liquids that day! It usually happens to me when I have changed things up to continue my weight loss!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
