How Long Were You Out Of Work After Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I was out for 2 1/2 weeks. It was plenty of time. Many people have gone back after a week. I'm happy I took a little longer. This week was my first full week back and the first week I can honestly say, I'm back to myself. I feel stronger and have so much energy.

I think it's a good idea to stay out as long as you can. My surgeon would have kept me out for 6 weeks if I wanted it. I was more concerned about the liquid diet and adjusting to the band.

I'm happy I stayed out. It was worth it. Best of luck.

I was banded last tuesday and went back to work today for a half day - which in the industry I work in is 7 hours. I am still having shoulder pain especially at night. I don't think I could have gone back monday- so about a week is average I think. Good luck.

I was banded on a Monday, stayed one night in the hospital, rested Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I worked half a day on Friday, then went back full time on the following Monday. I felt like I could have gone back all day on Friday or maybe Thursday. But I'm in a job where I'm either in the office or out at meetings, so it's not like I'm on my feet all day. I figured, my tummy was going to hurt no matter what I did so I might as well go about my business.

Well I am going to have Surgery on Friday and hope to return by Monday

but it all depends on how I feel. I basically sit at a desk all day. I do graphic design so it's pretty sedintary. I will make sure I post to let everyone know if it was possible.

Keep your fingers crossed :)

Banded on a Thursday, F, S, Su , Mo off. Then back to work Tuesday. Basically a long weekend. I was a little tired and sore that first week back but not too bad. I pretty much just sit all day. It helps to recline your chair a tad, too. It takes the pressure off of the port area. Just don't plan anything physical that first week. You can do it but you get tired fast -- esp. when you're only on liquids.< /p>

I was out exactly one week. I had planned a few more days off, but a crisis came up and I had to come in. I probably would have been OK going back at that point if things had been calm, but I worked a ton of overtime the first 4 days, including the weekend, and so it took longer to feel normal.

I took 2 weeks off. I probably could have gone back in 7 to 10 days, though. I am on my feet a lot at work.

I had my surgery Tuesday afternoon (I improve by the hour, so I think that the time is important) and I'm going to a meeting for work this evening, and I'll head into work for a few hours tomorrow. It won't be a problem -- I'm not really having pain from the incisions (haven't taken any pain killers), or any gas pains.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
