Why No More Dr.kelly Threads?

Recommended Posts

My bad started typing fast because I am at work...Crazy today!! Let me get this clear Mi Doctor he can't work...Florence he is still able to work as of now!!! The sad irony of this all is everyone says he is a skilled surgeon..his patients highly recommend him...He speaks great English, great bedside manners etc....Have you all been for blood test and organ function test since you've been sleeved?!?!

BTW I'm an ICU nurse and am super critical of my care. There was nothing I found questionable and am healing well. The coordinators I'm told get about $1500 per pt so if the incentive was that great I'm sure I'd be peppering forums to my physician's advantage. Just my opinion. Bottom line is you have to be comfortable with whomever you choose to do your surgery----Mexican or US surgeon.

Thank you, I feel that's a very good sentiment to remember. This is a very personal decision and while I know everyone is trying to help fellow patients, it can really scare the bejesus out of patients who are about to have surgery with any Mexico surgeon, especially those surgeons who may not the flavor of the month.

@CCCross and all of Dr.Kelly's patients....The point is not to "scare" anyone!! It is to inform!!! That's why this is a forum. Just keep in mind that all of the "rumors" I did not say I only stated facts.....We are not sleeved so IT IS OUR JOB to state facts as the trip alone is scary enough..however, I would have been less than a human not to answer Mike when he asked a very valid question... Let's just get that clear and out of the way!!!

To the ICU nurse I pray that your recovery is speedy and congratulations to a new life...I am a nursing student and you were a revision so that's why he probably used the drain on you...this may be to personal and you don't have to answer but I know U.S. nurses have the best insurance so why did you go to Mexico?!?! I am going because my Aetna insurance has a clause stating no bariatric surgery!!!

Hmm, yeah so I didn't research about what hospitals he can and can't operate in. I just went by his credentials, his experience, training, and made my final decision after I spoke to him over the phone. He was my first choice, then I kept reading and changing my mind, then I ended up back with him. Like another poster said, this is a decision you have to be comfortable with because you will have to live with it for the rest of your life.

I have had my blood work drawn after I was 4 months out. My PCP said everything looks great. My cholesterol is still borderline high, but that's genetics. It has always been a little high, even when I was fatter and still working out almost daily. I'm due back next month for some more blood work. Hopefully it has gone down.

Sure, more surgeons are more popular, but popularity didn't matter to me. What's popular isn't always right. Also, take into consideration that this surgery has a risk. You can go to a surgeon with a 0% complication rate and still end up with a complication (hypothetically). Of course I was freaked out and paranoid that I would be one of 0.1%, but by the grace of God I wasn't. I pray that you are successful with whomever you choose.

I had my surgery 8/14 with Dr. Kelly at florence. While I was in Mexico he was also sleeving a patient at Mi hospital. The same hospital that i heard he wasnt allowed to work at. Comical. But remember, everything you read on the internet is true!!!

Look, the bottom line is you have to pick who you feel comfortable with, and the biggest thing i have learned about all of these forums is each persons surgeon has rainbows shooting out of their a$$! Its personal to everyone.

(And i have also heard that people come on here boasting about their surgeons and cutting down other surgeons and get paid for referrals) but i dont believe everything i hear, so.............

I by far do not have great health insurance. I work for a large hospital chain that has made a *** type insurance among their facilities. Otherwise--- out of network. The bariatric surgeon they use is very pro-band still. I spent 6 months convincing him to remove my band then got frustrated and switched to my husband's insurance. My BMI is not high enough to qualify for the US standards. I am in grad school for my NP and don't have the time or inclination to fight to have this covered in the US. I too researched my tookas off. After being a critical care RN for 15 years I have found that your gut instinct often surpasses any textbook and it hardly lets me down. It felt right to me with Dr Kelly. My advice is whoever you choose to find that peace of mind before proceeding. Also wanted to point out that Mexico is truly a different world. Cotton balls and alcohol to clean your IV site. Technically sound but a remote practice for US standards. Wishing everyone good luck and good losing!

I am confused on the comment about drains. If u search the forum u will find there is no standard across the board with drain use. Some people have them and some don't.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
