Why No More Dr.kelly Threads?

Recommended Posts

Well I know everything on the internet is true...duh that's why I'm having surgery before 12/21...gotta be hot for the apocalypse! <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

Exactly. That's why I'm waiting until after 12/21. Don't want to spend needlessly if the world is going to end.

Hey all,

The site I posted was just for informational purposes that I came across on my own research. I cannot attest to its accuracy or sources. Take it for what it is. Info on the Internet. Honestly, patient experiences I hear/read from all of you guys are so much more helpful. Know that we taking a risk having WLS. Gather data. Talk to your surgical team pre payment, your PCP, and others who've done it. Make a decision you're comfortable with.

We have to make the decision that is best for us. No matter which surgeon someone chooses I hope they are confident with their choice and have an amazing experience, a speedy recovery, and a long healthy, and happy life. Please continue to share your experiences. It feels good to share a connection with others going through the same experiences I am. Sort of makes us kindred.

I'd like to mention that I had surgery in Mexico. Now I did not go to Dr. Kelly, but I would like to state that my doctor did not use a drain either and all was great. No problems. Actually there are tons of doctors that didn't use drains. There is no set standard that says they have to use them, I am sure it is a case by case episode, as we all react different to surgery. I know there are other factors here that are in play for Dr. Kelly, but I have heard allot of good things about him- and would not discount him just because he doesn't place drains. If you feel he is the best surgeon for you, then that is your right, Only you know what and who you are comfortable with, and you have to have that level of comfort in order for you to feel at peace with your decision. I wish you all the best!

@Sexy Slim I am glad that your operation was a success (as many others were) and Dr. Kelly was my choice up until 3 weeks ago!! The reason why I am on here to see if a thread would be made about this...No one works with Dr. Kelly anymore!!! That is not a coincidence that no one is working with him and he's not able to work at NUMEROUS hospitals...It SCARES me that he doesn't use a drain. He is the ONLY Dr. That doesn't use a drain in Mexico or the U.S.

Don't know where u got your info, or how many of the US doctors you surveyed, but many don't use drains. My mom had her surgery Sept 25th in Virginia. Excellent surgeon, NO DRAIN, home same day on FULL liquid diet. Shes doing wonderfully. This sounds suspiciously like a undercover coordinator post with all the negative and unconfirmed info. Hmm.

I used Dr. Kelly, and I did have a drain while at Florence Hospital, another patient that I spent a lot of time with while in Mexico was his patient at Mi hospital and had no drain. I did not feel a personal connection with the Dr, I did not have dinner with him or his wife, I am not having his name tattooed on my soon to be svelte arm. What i did get was back on my feet in one day, never even a hint of infection, no leaks, a sleeve that offers great restriction but not too much as I have never thrown up or gotten slimmies or anything like that. Bottom line is he is a good, dare I say great surgeon and that is what I was shopping for.

My bad started typing fast because I am at work...Crazy today!! Let me get this clear Mi Doctor he can't work...Florence he is still able to work as of now!!! The sad irony of this all is everyone says he is a skilled surgeon..his patients highly recommend him...He speaks great English, great bedside manners etc....Have you all been for blood test and organ function test since you've been sleeved?!?!

I am afraid you have been misinformed. I was sleeved by Dr. Kelly @ Mi Doctor on August 17th. Omar told me that Mi Doctor has been trying their best to get Dr. Kelly to use them as their primary hospital. My husband will be choosing the same doctor and hospital in the spring. As a matter of fact he is adament about having Dr. Kelly because I have had such an easy surgery and recovery. I am 7 weeks out today 26 lbs lighter and I, like my friend Damanda, have never thrown up, had slimies, or any other complications. Dr. Kelly's team still checks on me and answers any questions I have right away. The experience couldn't have gone better. My incisions were like tiny scratches and are healing up beautifully. I can already eat about 4 oz of anything I want (although I stay away from bad stuff), and I haven't had a single food disagree with me yet. Dr. Kelly said he uses his professional judgement whether to drain or not drain. In my case he said I didn't need it and I was estatic about that. I am not here to tell someone who to choose or not choose, you must do your research and go with what makes you comfortable but I do think someone should be sure before they start stating "facts" that aren't correct.

What's with the personal vendetta against Dr. Kelly? Again, I find it suspicious. Every person chooses a physician that THEY feel comfortable with. Be it Kelly, Garcia, Ponce...as long as WE are happy with our care and outcomes. I believe it is wrong to destroy a reputation with unsubstantiated claims. Its called defamation. I for one switched from Garcia to Kelly just because of such ridiculous tactics by coordinators. I felt as a healthcare professional that such board postings and rumors were unethical and I don't want to deal with such business people. For goodness sake! Every surgeon gets a fair share...its not like there aren't enough of us to go around lol. Many surgeons are doing 5+ surgerys a day..really??! If you have a PERSONAL experience good or bad by all means, its a public forum for information. But if you're just posting unproven, unsubstantiated rumor with no legitimate sources it is unappreciated and unwarranted. Good luck in the search for a doctor YOU are comfortable with.

My doctor doesn't use a drain and he trained at UT medical school. He does single incision gastric sleeve and robotic sleeves. Not everyone needs a drain, it's a case by case situation or should be. Some surgeons take the cookie-cut route, and do everything the same way for every patient, whether they need it or not.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
