Look into Dr. Ken Bryce in Rockwall/Rowlett. Lonestar Lapband is the office name. He did my lapband surgery and has had the surgery himself. He is very involved with the patient; doesn't 'pawn' you off on his office staff and most importantly, he listens when you talk!

Adam Smith is also a banded surgeon. He has lots of experience and used to teach surgery at UNT. He has offices in Ft Worth and Hurst. He used to operate out of SCOR in Richardson, too. I'm not sure if he still does, or not. He's a super nice guy - very personable and down-to-earth.

Dr. David Kim is my doctor. He and North Hills Hospital are an ASBS Center of Excellence. He has had ZERO deaths from Lap Bands or Gastric Bypasses (has done around 500 surgeries total) and has had ZERO erosions and only one slip. He was WONDERFUL. I highly recommend him!!!

Dr. Adam Smith in Ft. Worth will be doing my surgery as well in December. I have a friend who works in a day surgery facility. She works in the OR and speaks very highly of Dr. Smith.

Interesting info everyone! Do any of you know if any of the docs, besides Dr. Kim, work in a Center of Excellence? I must have 1 who does because of Medicare! What a stupid rule.

Wootsie the bureaucrats that work with Medicare are not known for having any common sense.....they're nothing but a bunch of bored pencil pushers....:heh:

also there is a new surgical center (Mayhill Hospital) here in Denton that does both surgeries. They take Medicare so they might be a center of excellence....

Man do I know that about Medicare. It's a nightmare sometimes, but at least they will pay. I have looked it up and there are the following list of

Centers of Excellence in the Dallas area. More are working on it, but this is the most current information I could find.

Baylor in Dallas

Methodist in Dallas

Zale Lipshy in Dallas

North Hills in Denton

None of the others have gotten the certification yet. I've talked with many of the docs offices about it. I'm still looking for information on here about Dr David Provost at Zale Lipshy. I found a website with information about him from some of his patients, but I would love to find some people on here who used him.:help::help::help:

Dr. David Kim (Colleyville) is amazing. He listened to my concerns before surgery and answered any questions that I had.

Dr. Kim didn't rush me to make any decisions nor did he rush my appointment time with him. His staff is really nice as well as the Forest Park facility and while I was in surgery, he removed my hernia that I didn't know I had. I was banded 2 yrs ago and only have about 30-40 pounds to goal weight. My band slipped a couple of months ago and so the saline had to be removed but has since moved back to it's place. Surgery seemed like my only option but the Lord is good, prayer works. I did research on getting banded for a few years before making my decision and I don't regret anything except not being brave enough to do it alot sooner. I hope you find the surgeon that is right for you :)

Dr. Robert Snow in Hurst (True Results) is great. He teaches the lap-band procedure to other Docs all over the world. He's a neat guy too. Listens to all concerns.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
