Nerves Getting The Best Of Me!

Recommended Posts

So i had my pre op endoscopy today. I was so nervous just getting the IV line in for the anesthesia. Im going to be a nervous wreck going into surgery. I totally see myself pulling out the cords and running out of the OR! But once i was asleep i realized so overreact! Was not bad at all. Then i think to myself, maybe i will just diet my whole life so i dont have to do this. Ugh. I dont want my nerves stopping me. :(

I'm getting sleeved next week and I'm very nervous but usually when I'm nervous or ready to freak out, I tend to get very quiet and do my deep breathing exercises. I used to listen to relaxation CDs when I would have anxiety before bed and it really helps me clear my mind and stay calm. I also did hypnosis with the home birth of my 3rd child and it really conditioned me to stay calm and relax. I haven't had a anxiety attack since learning these techniques. I'm more worried about the breathing tube more than anything because anything that could possibly irritate my throat and make it swell tends make me want to freak out. I know I will be fine though

Hey I don't normally reply I read on here daily!

I want to say on the nerves though its completely normal. During my two week preop diet id think of every reason known to man why I should back out! Now I'm 24 and already was on meds for anxiety and depression so my nervousness was horrible! It got to where I couldn't sleep thinking about the ifs and buts about surgery.

Now let me add. I did it...day of surgery I was a mess! But I did it...

Recovery was a breeze compared to what id planned in my head. I'm four weeks post op tomorrow! And its been great. Your going to read a lot of "bad" on here. Those are the stories I focused on before. For every bad story I'm sure there are ten+ good ones! I've not dealt with any sickness or had to take any pain meds since coming home from the hospital. I want to tell you to try and stay calm but know since I was there no words can really help. If ya wanna talk or ask questions I'm always available! Its so worth it!!! Lots of good vibes sending your way!

Thanks for the encouragement. My nerves drive me crazy!! I know i will be a mess the entire week before surgery. I just need to know that this will be worth it. Seems like it, just also worry about long effects. Ahhh!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
