Hello Leatha,

Thanks for your note- how nice to find a neighbour. Yes, I know Hamn and Cribbins won't take pts from other surgeons- and I believe they might sign off on you if you go elsewhere for a fill.

I will stick it out and work with them- after all I have come this far.

(One suggestion I made was that they get a Nurse Practitioner to help- something I would love to do, but I am about 3 years away from getting my MSN.)

Now all I need to do is be a good bandster....

I had my band placed by Dr Albert Wetter, in San Francisco. I moved out there for about 15 months and came running home to Texas. I left, thinking he would be able to refer me directly to someone he knew would see me. That didn't work out exactly how he lead me to believe or how I envisioned. Now, I'm having issues and I seriously need a doctor. Looks like I'll have to see Veninga since he's on my insurance and the others aren't interested.

I've only heard good things about him, though, so that's good.

Does Veninga still do bariatrics? There is one more here locally-(Plano Presby) Dr Horrileno- does mainly Roux-en-y here , but has done a few bands too.

There are actually tons of surgeons who do em here in DFW, but the issue is getting one to take you on as a pt?

Exactly.

Dr Benavides saw me and was quite happy to take me as a patient, however, SCOR was not contracted with my insurance. So that fixed that.

Veninga has started doing bands and I've ready many testimonials by patients that seem to love him. I'm a bit leary of anyone who hasn't done lots and lots of bands but what choice do I have? I could fly back to San Francisco, but I really need to establish a doc here and he sounds like he's the guy.

Wish me luck!

Leatha

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
