How Often Do You Need To See The Doctor, After Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery, on 12/11/12, and the last time I went to the doctor, was for my six week check up. I have other friends, that say, they go about every other month, and can't believe I haven't been back to the doctor. I've done great, I've lost 90 pounds, in the past 9 months, and I'm about 15 away from goal. I really have avoided the doctor, because, I feel so darn great, but, I don't follow the diet, of my surgeron. I don't drink protien, and I pretty much eat anything I want. I don't exercise, but, my job keeps me running. I was just wondering, how often you think a person should go back. thanks

It really depends on the Dr. My Dr normally wants to see patients at 1 week, 2 months, 6 months and 1 year. After that he just wants them to get their Vit. levels checked with their primary care Dr. every year. I live about 3.5 hours from my surgeon so for me he allowed me to see him at 1 week and 2 months and from here on out unitl the 1 year mark he said my Dr could just fax over my lab results. He wants labs for the 2 months, 6 months and 1 year markers.

I had my surgery in Mx, however I was VERY fortunate that my PCP had agreed to do all of my post ops. Nice huh? :) Anyhow, I visited her after 30 days, then 3 months, and now I've been going every 6 months to have my panels checked.

HTH!

2 months , 3 months later, 3 months - next is October 11

1 year anniversary 12/15/12 - after that , dr. will see me in a year

Gene1970 is right, all docs are different

you and i have about the same stats (i'm 5"3)- you had WLS 3 days before me, and our weight situation is the same

as far as choosing not to follow surgeons diet - Protein, Water, etc. or exercise - well....what ever works for you

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
