Any Ideas About Exercise I Can Do

Recommended Posts

hi, i am disabled and at my current weight am not able to exercise, i cannot walk far at all because i get cramp in the bottom of my back. When i am in my wheelchair i self propel, but can not do it for long.

I use my stomach muscles a lot to help me sit up in bed, and am concerned if i will be able to do this after the op.

I intend to go swimming after the op when i am recovered, but can't think of anything else i can do.

I have fatigue probs with the fibromyalgia but am hoping i will have more energy when i have lost some weight to be able to do some arm exercises, i have bought some little hand held weights but have not got a clue what to do with them, any advice would be really appreciated, especially from anyone else who is disabled and lives with fibro, thanks, Janet, x

Band exercises are great. You can pick the level and do what you are capable of. Order them off Amazon and have them delivered.

You can Google exercises to do with resistance bands, but here is one resource:

Hope this gets you on your way.

Good luck!

I understand you're not able to walk on land, but would you be able to walk in a pool?? Water walking burns nearly double the calories burned by walking on land, or a treadmill, and the buoyancy of the Water takes a LOT of the weight-related strain off your legs, joints, etc. I also love doing deep water aerobics...absolutely NO impact, and burns lots of calories.

For example...If I do an hour of water walking I burn 3.6 calories X 247lbs/hour = 889 calories burned

If I do an hour of water aerobics I burn 1.82 calories X 247lbs/hour = 450 calories burned

Compare those numbers to land-walking. :)

I wish you great success!

Laura

I second the Water aerobics. If I were in your situation, I wouldn't hesitate to be in the pool everyday. You can do Water walking and aerobics one day, swim the next.

Also google chair aerobics. There are chair aerobics DVDs out there, mainly targeted at people who are in wheelchairs, and elderly people. It's just what it sounds like, a low impact workout from a seated position.

Best of luck to you.

Good luck! You may also want to look for posts from TJ Mama. She's been wheelchair-bound for years and is working her way up to walking...and making GREAT strides! :) You may be able to correspond with her for ideas, or get good information just from reading her posts.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
