Size Versus Scale

Recommended Posts

I must have a big frame or something because I still wear about the same size clothes after 40lb loss. I now weigh 177 and still about 18. Some 16's now but hearing people in 12 & 14 at this weight makes me frustrated. Wth?

I'm with you um 165 and wear a 14 in pants. We are just built differently. Hang in there ad long as we feel good and look good the clothes size shouldn't really matter. We will get down, slowly but we will.

Funny, I was the exact same way. I dropped 40 pounds and was still wearing all the same clothes. I didn't let it frustrate me, though, as I knew deep down this couldn't continue, and it didn't.

Right after, my sizes started dropping like crazy. I was changing pant sizes every month for awhile.

It will happen ... you know it has to.

I think it has to do with height...I was wearing a size 14 at 236 lbs years ago when I was 236 lbs LOL

Now I have lost 32 lbs and am still in my size 26 jeans....either I was wearing them WAY TOO TIGHT or I haven't lost much weight from my hips and thighs ;) I'm pretty sure it was the first one....

Hmm... It could be the kind of pants that you're wearing. I'm in a tight 16 loose 18 from old navy, gap, not any plus sizes or jr's. Some people posting smaller sizes may still be buying their clothes from plus size stores, which runs bigger than lets say an express pair of pants same size. I did buy a size of work pants size 14 and they fit, but they're stretch so I really can't go around saying I'm a size 14, because I'm sure I couldn't get into a regular pair of size 14 jeans. Even some of the size 16's that I have, are way smaller than the others that I can get on. The clothing industry is so freaking corrupt with its sizing standards. I know for a fact that express and other various brands run small, so it could be that you are wearing clothes that run small. Also we're all built differently.

How tall are you? I'm short, started at 213, and I was an 18. Today I was at 191.8 3 weeks postop & I am still wearing the size 18, but they are super loose. I had a pair of size 16 jeans, put them on Saturday & they came to my crotch (bc they were so baggy), had to put a 14 on. All of the above clothes are from Lane Byrant.

I always feel this way. I read about people who are in 270s and in 22s. I am barely in 24's. But this has always been the case for me - I just carry more weight in my butt/thighs. You are probably just proportioned differently than them.

I have never understood the scale. I'm 4'11" and pre-op I was 268 and a size 20. With my height I should have looked like a butterball turkey. I just carry it differently. All our bodies are different. Don't get caught up comparing yourself to others. Be your beautiful self. Keep doing the things you're supposed to and it will pay off eventually. Good Luck

I had the same thing going on as you... lost a significant amount of weight but did not really change sizes... at least not much. They will catch up with each other. One day you will wake up and put on your clothes and they will be huge. Then you will buy stuff that fits and a month later you will be down 2 sizes again. That is what happened with me anyway! I am a little over a year out now and I can tell you I have gone through so many different sizes of clothes that I now groan when something doesn't fit! Horrible problem to have right?!?! I have met my goal but my body is still changing. Enjoy all the stages of this process... it is an amazing journey :) Good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
