Gallbladder Removal

Recommended Posts

I know MANY lapband patients have to have their gallbladder removed. Well mine is coming out Saturday morning. What can I expect after surgery? Will my life style have to change at all? Did you have any complications?

Thanks

I have never had one bit of change whatsoever. I never knew I had one, and I have never experienced anything to let me know it's gone. Your mileage may vary. Good luck!

I had mine out 9/15 and the only change I have is that I feel 100% better. Not sick anymore no more side or back pain!!! I am back to feeling like I did before GB started acting up!

Surgery was SOOOOO MUCH EASIER than band surgery!!Back to work in only a couple of days! Never took any pain pills. Never needed them!

I do have a little infection in my belly button incision. But I am on antibiotics so all good!

Good luck!

The only problem I had was during healing. I drank a lot of Crystal Light, and it made me sick. It might have before, I don't know because I didn't drink much of it.

Once I healed, I've been just fine. No problems, I forget I don't have my Gallbladder until something reminds me.

That's good to know. How long was your recovery time? The doc said I could go back to work Wed. and my surgery is on Saturday. I teach elementary school...and have gotten varied opinions on this.

Malice, I am a pre-school teacher of 30 three yr olds. I was fine going back to work 4 days after surgery. I just told the children that I had a sore belly and to be careful when they give me a hug and that I couldn't pick them up for a while. They were very good little ones.(for once!)

WONDERFUL TO KNOW!!! I have been concerned and thinking that no one really knew what my job entailed. Thank you so much for the info. I'm not so worried about it anymore.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
