Would anyone be willing to share what your monthly costs are for the bariatric Vitamins, Protein supplements, etc, now that you've been sleeved? I assume the grocery bill (& eating out costs) are less than before, but have those costs been offset by now having to pay more for special bariatric vitamins, protein powders, etc? What special things are you paying for now that you didn't have to buy before being sleeved?

Sorry, this app doesn't show dollar signs, but the number at the end is the monthly cost.

I buy my Vitamins at rite aid (much cheaper than at my surgeons office), I have a huge tub of Protein Powder from GNC, it's lasted me ages since I don't do it every day (I'm almost 7 months out, so I'm able to get most of my Protein in through regular eating). I haven't had to purchase anything special post op, and our grocery bill has certainly gone down. We hardly ever eat out, but when we do the bill is about the same. I get a regular meal, eat what I can, give some to my 2 yr old, and bring the rest home for my next meal.

Thanks for your responses! I'm trying to work on a budget for paying back the loans for this self-pay surgery & your responses are perfect.

Early out it seems like an expense because we use a lot of Protein but no groceries so it's a win there. We should have been taking Vitamins anyway so that's a wash in my opinion, when eating out I usually eat an app. For an entree - I suppose that's about 50% less. I'm not taking the ten to fifteen alieve liqugels I was before surgery that was getting expensive so I was going to costco for the paint can size bottle, big savings there (my back & hip pain has subsided a lot since surgery) my wife is frugal and questions a lot of purchases that I make , I do all grocery shopping, (and cooking ,aka I control my diet) and my standard answer has become " it's cheaper than a heart attack" she is getting it. The 20 or so pounds she has lost by osmosis since my surgery has helped win her to my side!

I would add possible ppi med and lots of bottles of Water and I also take a B-12 sup. probaly adds $25 for meds. You can easily get protien shakes for $2 a meal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
