Raleigh, Nc Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Yep I worked at Duke for 10 years. Living near campus is expensive, but lots to do and I believe at your age you would enjoy all there is to do. Good luck!

I'd be the first one to say that Raleigh is just as bad as Durham...the only difference is that they don't put all of Raleigh's business in the news like they do with Durham. And Cary, Apex, and even Holly Springs may not be that diverse, they're nice, quiet bedroom communities if you have a family. Just depends on what you're looking for.

Ajeeprider really did a great job summing things up.

I am white and live in Raleigh with my latino and black children. We've never had any issues, but there are definitely areas in Raleigh to avoid just as there are areas in Durham to avoid.

At your age and with you possibly working at Duke, Durham should be a good fit for you. My suggestion would be to try to find an apartment near where you will work that will offer a 6 month lease. I would then explore as much as possible and take the time to get a feel for where you want to settle for the long term.

My surgeon was Dr Yoo who was pretty great but the nursing staff at the hospital were fantastic! :) Who's your surgeon?

& I've resisted Instagram so far but it's really only a matter of time. Heh

I am in Sanford, NC and had my sleeve surgery 2 days ago. So far, so good. I had mine done at Duke Raleigh Hospital. So far, the only "pain" I am having is the large gas bubble in my abdomen. No surgical pain at all!

My surgeon was Dr. Torquati. He and Dr. Yoo are partners! I absolutely love everyone in the office!

What's the date of your surgery? Best of luck! I really loved the staff at DRH. Everyone was so compassionate, helpful, friendly, encouraging. Everything I could have asked for.

I know this is an old post, but could anyone recommend one surgeon over another at Duke? Or the Regional Hospital vs Duke Raleigh hospital? I'm not from the area, and I'm trying to decide on a surgeon but it's hard when you don't know anyone from there. Thanks! You can email me if you would like!

Hi. I'm new to this forum. I live in Durham, moved here from Virginia six years ago. Everyone told me I was crazy to move to Durham. They made the city sound so bad, I was reconsidering. I'm glad I took a chance on Durham. I love its diversity, and there's lots to do. You'll never be bored. I have found this city is no better or worse then any other city. Every town has those areas to avoid. Just trust your instincts and use good common sense.

Anyone know Dr. Chan Park?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
