Anyone Feel Like They Wont Lose?

Im 32, 270 lbs... surgery date is Oct 23,2012! im getting excited, but i keep thinking, what if i go through this major surgery, & it doesnt work for me?! anyone else feel like that?

We all probably did at least a little. Some of us a lot. You just have to believe in the surgery, and most of all believe in yourself. This isn't a magic cure all that makes us lose the weight, it's something that helps us do it. So you have to really be willing to work for your goal. If you're willing to do that you will be a huge success.

I am scheduled for surgery on October 3rd and I seriously think this EVERY single minute of EVERY day that ticks down til surgery. I understand this is just a tool to help me get to where I need to be. But that anything can be manipulated to not benefit you. If I choose to suck down 1,000 calorie milkshakes this won't work. I will just have to be responsible and accountable for what I eat, when and how...

I still think it will not work even though there has been some weight loss. After so many failed attempts I think this is natural.

I am terrified this won't work!! I can't even seem to lose weight on 1000 calorie pre-op liquid diet.... surgery is 10/2 and I am a bit panicky.

I'm 36 and started close to your weight. I also had trouble losing restricting calories alone to 1000-1200. But this works, the focus in Protein and smaller portions, food journaling. I guarantee it will work for you!!!!

I have been on the pre-op diet at under 1000 calories and haven't lost much weight. However, it just makes me realize hoe important this surgery is for me.

Whoops, "sent" before I was finished! I have come to realize that if I've restricted my diet and not losing weight, it explains how I was gaining so much weight with a normal diet , some bad choices and a few sweets. I am encouraged that any weight lost will stay lost and above all, I have hope. My weight loss may be slower, but much more enjoyable to watch it go down than up!! Take heart, you will be successful! Slow and steady wins the race as well, and you just might have a pleasant surprise!

Well I'm 32 5'2 and my highest weight was 270.2 on July 2nd 2012. I had surgery on Aug 1st weighed 254.5. Today I'm 229.

It hasn't been easy or as fast as it fantasized it would be. It takes a lot of hard work. I had thoughts like yours what if it doesn't work for me. But the truth is, I will work if you work it. I have to make sure I get my Protein, Water and exercise in every day. It's just a way of life now I depend on it like I do air, shelter and love.

I know it's nerve wreaking but it will be here and gone soon enough. Then you'll have a new set of problems. Like an i a slow loser?

I feel this way. And I think Nate said it best when he spoke of it being an issue with believing in yourself. I mean.... We allowed ourselves to get to a point where we need surgery for christs sake, lol. I think it's natural to wonder if we'd allow ourselves to screw this up too. But yeah... Totally with you on this.

We are so use to years of 'failure' - it's easy to think 'what if....' Mine now, since I'm at goal and can now eat more....'What if I gain it all back' Ugh, the mind games we play. I gained five lbs over the summer due to way too many sweets at the family reunion, all the church get togethers and vacation. As of this morning, I'm within the range I'm comfortable at ( 143 - 146). I don't get hungry, so all I have to do now is use self control. "Dieting" is easy when there is little or no hunger. I just cut back a little and up my Protein. It's taken 3 weeks, but I did it. I figure in another 3 weeks, I can get down to 144. As far as losing.....girlfriend, you are going to have approx 85% of your tummy removed, you WILL LOSE!!!!! How much and how quickly does depend a little on you. I treated my sleeve as the most important 'diet' of my life. No sweets, fried food....nothing I should not have until I reached goal. Slowly but surely I eat normally.....a NEW normal. I don't deprive myself, I think I NOW eat like a naturally thin person and I make choices, I don't mindlesslly eat!! I am aware of everything I put into my mouth. It is much easier than before!! You will lose...enjoy the ride, it is WILD!!!!

You are so correct, keeping a food log is important. I had surgery in June 2010 and I STILL keep a food log, I miss occasionally, but for the most part, I do this daily!! I also still measure or weigh my food when I'm home. It's habit now.....oh, and I weigh EVERY day. I know exactly where I am and I don't 'freak out' if I'm a lb or two up, I just adjust a little. I WANT to know, it is much easier to take off three, four or five lbs. Ten, that would be a little more alarming to me.

i think that we all have that fear. and mostly it comes from all of the diets that we've tried and failed with. i was terrified that i was going to go through all of this, and then still be in the same boat.

well, i am 37, 5'6" my starting weight was 373, and now, i am now 249 and still losing about 2-5 pounds a week, depending on how my body decides to react to my new lifestyle.

these fears will also resurface after surgery as well. when you hit what we call a 'stall' and the weight STOPS dropping. i had a 2 week stall, and a 1 week stall. each time, i thought 'see, i knew it wouldn't work for me, i am the 1 person that this wouldn't work for'. then, i had to remind myself that, hey, it will work as hard as i will.

i have found that taking measurements is a good thing. it seems that during my stalls, i was not losing pounds, but i was losing inches. sometimes, your body just needs to adjust.

dont let your fears fool you, the sleeve will do what it is supposed to do. now, you just keep doing what you are supposed to do.

ALL of us did. But for the OVERWHELMING majority IT WILL WORK.

I yo yo dieted for decades and gradually got up to 375 pounds. I looked terrible and felt worse. BP was high, blood sugar all over the place, cholesterol high and resting heart rate of 90+. I now weigh 205 pounds and my health is dang near perfect. I did it and it was the BEST thing I have ever done for me health. There are SOME who DO fail, either their food issues are overwhelming and they have sever mental health issues or the surgery went wrong. Yes, it DOES happen, but most likely it will NOT.

Now excuse me, I am going to leave work, run home hop on my bicycle and ride for 20+ miles - something I now love to do. I've been averaging about 100 miles a week for a few months now. 2 years ago I used to bust out in a sweat just going to the bathroom.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
