I will be 2 weeks sleved on Wednesday and besides being sore I feel great. I however am not doing my Vitamins, prescriptions for tummy and eating what I want just small portions. I have never been sick but I am wondering if I am pushing my luck and if I am not going to loose weight as well as I am so not doing puréed/ all liquid foods. Thoughts appreciated please

Oh please, please be careful! You've had major surgery done on your stomach, and it will be months before the nerve endings heal, so you can be hurting yourself and not feel it! Your stomach has so much healing to do, which is why your surgeon puts you on a liquid and then puree diet - digesting normal food takes a lot of rockin' and rollin' for your stomach, which it is just not up to at this point. Also, this is your best opportunity to develop a new relationship with food. For a few weeks they ask you to eat what's gentle on you body, not what you crave, or what sounds good, or what tastes good. You're putting your body through huge changes, and this is the ideal time to build new, healthy habits. Don't waste it. Believe me, maintaining those new eating habits gets harder with time, not easier. You'll never be more committed to this change than you are right after surgery. Make the most of it!

Just curious, what are your doctor's instructions? I think we are given specific directions for a specific reason and would advise you to follow those instructions to be as successful as possible. No judgements, just a thought.

I am really glad that your asking for help. I know that you want to be successful in your weight loss and are concerned about having complications such as a leak or something horrible like that. This is the time that you can maximize your weight loss by following your surgeon's directions. My surgeon has us on an all liquid diet for the 1st 3 weeks, 2nd 3 weeks we are on pureed fooods, 3rd 3 weeks we are eating soft foods and after that we are able to eat what ever we want. My surgeon wants and directs us to eat sf stuff, Protein first and to get as much Water (fluid) in as possible. This is the period of time you would benefit highly by following protocol to increase weight loss. You can do this! We re here to help you as others have helped us. :)

You MUST take the Vitamins and meet your Protein requirements, first and foremost.

I'm glad you're feeling so great, but be careful. What is your Rx for? Pain? Because I didn't take mine either. I also felt good and tolerated everything I ate, but make sure you get the nutrition you need and DON'T EAT JUNK food.< /p>

I am two weeks out as well and I am eating cream Soups, Protein Shakes, sf pudding, popcicles and fugecicles. i also tried applesauce and yogurt all low fat and sugar free. I can usually only get a few bites at a time. I have been pretty satisfied on this today. Last week on broth and Clear Liquids I was not! What have you been eating? They told me I could get something stuck in an incision and it would get infected and I would have to have another surgery. So they scared me into not eating a piece of chicken which was really what I wanted! I am glad to hear you are doing good!

No judgement from her either, but I'm one week out tomorrow and I think you're setting yourself up for big trouble. My surgeon's post op eating plan is very liberal and I'm just not ready for it. We've lost a HUGE portion of a MAJOR organ. The staple line is very long and inside the stomach is the equivalent of raw, highly tenderized meat ! I'm struggling with the food choices as well, but I didn't go through all this just to screw it up by giving in to my addiction to food, which is exactly how I got to the point of needing this surgery to begin with. There are no "do overs" this time and the consequences of "pushing it" could very easily turn into a dire situation... Food for thought...

Hey Lisa! I think we all know how hard this is. I'm two weeks post-op. My surgeon was very adament about progressing very slowly from clear liquids to creamy liquids, etc. If your surgeon didn't provide the info to you, may I suggest that you go to http://www.forestparkmc.com/. Click on Dallas, then on the left side click on Weight Loss Surgery. Then towards the right, click on Gastric Bypass/Sleeve Instruction Manual. This will give you a very complete idea of what your food and liquid choices should be. It's very close to what my surgeon gave me.

I totally agree with those above who have expressed concern with what you're doing. Your stomach has been through a major trauma and it needs special care to heal.

If you're struggling, PLEASE contact your surgeon's office and discuss your concerns - they are used to questions and have heard it all before. They won't judge, but will hopefully teach, encourage and offer you much needed support.

Best of luck!

I was the same way 2 weeks out but at 5 weeks now. For the last 3 days I am back to liquids and very pureed foods because my stomach was hurting so bad and everything including Water going thru like a siv so be careful. Feeling better today but I have not had more than 400 calories. You need to be careful not to damage anything and cause a leak.

This is a hard topic for me. Why are you skipping your period of liquid/puree? The reason for the periods of time is to give your stomach time to heal. Did you get a weekly plan from your doctor? They should have told you the time to stay on liquids and purees.

I know it is really hard, but this is a major surgery, and in my opinion, it's worth giving up the food for. There are ways to deal with head hunger and cravings. I really hope you consider at least talking to your doctor about what you're doing, they need to know so that they can help get you back on track. They really don't make up rules for a reason and I don't want to see you end up with a complication that could have been avoided.

I did stick with the plan but I did have a few bites of mac salad and added parmesan cheese to my greek yogurt. Nothing major but now in my 5th week can't even take in more than 1/4 cup of mushies at a time. Guessing from other posts that the more you heal the more you feel the restriction.

Thanks guys. What are your favorite things to purée ?

I think at this point you should still be on full liquids, don't push it take it easy you are in this for the long haul.

Protein Shakes

yogurt

thinned creamy Soups strained

sf pudding

sf Jello

soupy cream of wheat

You will have the rest of your life to eat, let your stomach heal and be good to it.

You are pushing your luck! There are a few too many people around lately trying to mix up their diet early. The first five weeks are critical for healing and I would highly recommend staying away from any food that may be requiring your stomach to work too hard!

I don't want anything bad to happen to anyone, but I'm afraid for you, you're definitely doing yourself a major disservice.

Best if luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
