Since surgery (9/4/12) Water tastes disgusting to me. It has an almost metallic taste. I'm adding crystal light which helps but it has to be really cold. I'm super-thirsty and so desperately want to chug the bottle but of course get horrible pain if I take too much in. Does the water-taste thing get better? And will I be able to drink more volume more quickly as time goes on?

I never had the metallic taste thing you describe, but then again I didn't drink any plain Water for a couple weeks after my surgery. And yes, you will be able to gulp down a lot more water (and much faster) several weeks after surgery than you can immediately post-op. I'm able to mow the lawn and cut the hedges now, in blazing hot sun, and chug it down well enough to stay hydrated.

Your body is in ketosis because your not able to eat carbs and it has a tendency to make things taste like metal. It will get better in time. I had to result to putting mio drops in my Water so I would drink it. I'm 11 months out now and can drink a lot of water at one time. Pretty much normal. :)

I'm struggling to drink it too. I'm just managing 1lt (sorry don't know what that is in fl oz). Even with lemon juice or cordial (our version of Crystal Light), it's a struggle.

I went through that post op, I used True Lemon and it helped me out a lot. I totally hated Water the first two months and Crystal Light I felt was too sweet so True Lemon did the job and allowed me to drink much more. It did take a long time for me to be able to drink a large quantity of water but now at almost 11 months out I am pretty close to normal.

Same here - Water felt too heavy. I've been putting a couple ounces of no sugar added apple juice into my water along with ice. I do better with cold. Start with 6-8 ounces water and 2 ounces apple juice and see if that works for you. Mio was too sweet for me. I might have to water down the Crystal Light I got based on some comments here.

You should totally try True Lemon! They have it in other flavors too, I am not big on sugary drinks and True Lemon gives just a hint of sweet tangy taste :)

After surgery, I went thru a phase of trying every bottled Water out there. Even the flavored ones had an after-taste. Then my daughter had me try SmartWater....the best water ever! Clear, crisp tasting water. The only other water I can tolerate is WholeFoods 365 brand of Electrolyte Enhanced Water (same as SmartWater). Give one/both of those a try!

I've ALWAYS hated drinking Water, so it's hard to say ;). There is a "thing" where many of us have a water intolerance for a few months right after surgery, so they suggest drinking other things in the mean time. it's normal though.

I've been drinking Powerade zero and sometimes G2. I love G2, but there are a few calories to account for....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
