I drink one cup of regular coffe twice a week on sat/sun. I drink a small soy latte everyonce in a while and have had no issues.

I have been drinking expressos some times in the morning. No cream, but some splenda is added. It helps when my work starts at 5:30 am and i go to bed at midnight. Is there any health reason why we should not have black coffee/ expresso with some non-calorie sweetener?

I thought caffeine was a big "no-no" because it is a hunger generator... i think you should try Decaf first!

Drinking coffee has not made me hungry yet. Now I mainly drink expressos so maybe that is different.

Im almost 2mos out and have only drank 2 maybe 3 small cups of iced coffee. Did not feel anything. I would think that everyone reacts differently so it's pretty much trial and error.

I go in for my 6 week follow up and I hope they clear me to resume drinking coffee. I have drank decaff a few times but it is just not the same.

As I nuderstand the coffee restriction is because of caffine. Caffine is a vasoconstrictulator (sp?). Simply put that means that caffine reduces the blood flow to the area where the caffine is absorbed. In this case your stomache. To provide the best, fastest possible healing you want to increase blood flow to the damaged area. I believe my surgeon will clear me to resume drinking coffee again at six weeks. At least that is what he said pre operative.

As you can see, nobody (myself included) knows what they are talking about. :)

Your best bet is to ask your doc for his/her guidelines on the matter.

Yes, it does seem that every doc has a different idea. I was allowed to have coffee again a week or two after surgery. I drink one shot of espresso daily mixed into my Protein Shake, or if I'm on the move I mix a Via (instant coffee) in. Good stuff.

My surgeon approved one cup a day. And i make it a big cup and I drink every drop then lick the cup. I'd suck on the K cup too if i thought I wouldn't burn myself ;)

I think that was actually the first question I asked when I called Dr. Kim's office. Can I still drink coffee after this surgery? If not, I'm really going to have to think about this! LOL  Indeed the answer was good!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
