Just to be fair, i did not start in on coffee until 5 weeks or so. I have caffeine in other forms too like mio energy and mark pantry ( target) liquid Water Enhancer. Usually one of something with caffeine in it, at most once a day.

I used to be a caffeine hound. But My new favorite is a small Decaf non-fat latte Starbucks on the way to work. :)

I've had two cups a day with sugar-free vanilla Creamer since my 3rd week with no issues. Life is good.

I resumed my morning joe a few days after surgery. Since then I've had a cup every day.

I weaned down for 2 months prior to surgery, then stopped completely a few days before, and a few days after. But I do enjoy my morning cup and would never want to give up all the health benefits of coffee. And coffee has never increased my hunger... kind of the opposite.

Caffeine is a general vasoconstrictor (all blood vessels), which is why it relieves headaches. Doctors warn against coffee and NSAIDs because they can irritate the stomach.

Had surgery 9/18. They brought me a cup of Decaf on my tray 9/20. Doc asked why I didn't drink it and I told him I only do coffee with cream, so he cleared me for some non dairy creamer also. Said I could have either decaf or regular once I was home, but not to go crazy on it. Tasted great in the hospital, but now that I'm a week out, it doesn't taste good anymore ! I poured a half a cup out today. It was just bleh... Most everything is tasting like crap now and it's really got me super frustrated !!! Someone please tell me my tastebuds are just in a rebellious mode and will go back to being good little tastebuds in the near future !!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
