Feel like I could cry....

Recommended Posts

I have no idea what is going on with me. I was banded on Friday Sept 22 after over 2yrs of waiting for it. First the pain was bad but now it is much better. I do have some discomfort in my abdomen but nothing I cant deal with. Everything I drink goes right thru me and nothing taste right. I am not particularly hungry but even when I feel a twing hungry noting taste right. I dont know what is going on with me emotionally because I just feel like I could cry. I dont have a clue as to why I just feel like I could cry.

Has anyone else gone thru this right after they got banded?

It took a full week before I could stomach anything but skim milk and chocolate carnation instant Breakfast. Everything else just made me so queasy that I just couldn't stand myself. The taste of anything else was just awful.

My doc told me if you get diarrhea take Imodium or if you get constipated take a laxative. But there is OTC meds for either condition and don't hesitate to use them.

Emotionally I think everybody pretty much goes through the rollercoaster. I know for several weeks afterwards I was really questioning what had I done to myself.

Sounds like your on the normal track.

Your body has undergone a major shock. You were probably on some sort of liquid diet prior to surgery, then had surgery and are now recovering from surgery. That takes a lot out on you, both physically and mentally. You may possibly also be mourning the loss of the food you used to eat, which is normal too. Give yourself some time for just you. Pamper yourself and better yet, make your family pamper you until you get to feeling better. I am sure you will regain your taste for food soon as well.

For sure I had the "I cant believe I fought my ass off to do this to myself" moments. I also had a few crying spells of "I am such a failure that I had to result to surgery to stop stuffing my face".

Let me tell ya, all of that will dissapear when you see the scale move. I had to turn it into empowerment of me admitting that I was over my head trying to do it myself, I took control, made a choice and did something for myself. Its not easy and I think you have to let yourself go throught the rollercoater of emotions.

I am extremly glad to have this site as there isnt one person I know who had even heard of this surgery! Boo hoo, and then watch the scale move..its quite the ride!

Relax Shell......you just had surgery. Doesn't matter what kind of surgery.....your body will react. Hang in there, it does get better as time goes on.

At the weightloss seminar that I attended, Dr. Gornichec told us that there can be post surgical depression. If we ended up with that, to just let him know and he would help us out. It is a very common problem.

You are in my prayers!

I hid from my family for the first 4 days at meal time, because whatever they were eating made me very queasy. Eventually. it passed.

With regard to the roller coaster emotions, don't underestimate the long lasting effects of the anesthesia. Remember, we were put under "general anesthesia" and it is a BIG deal to the body. You might find that your memory is worse than usual, that your emotions are very close to the surface, etc.

Best of luck and don't hesitate to call on us if you need support.

First of all, we're women. WE CRY!

Secondly, you've done it. You wanted it, fought for it, and now you have it. Isn't that the way we are with most things we want? It's not a magic pill - no matter what anyone says. It's still hard - it's still diet and exercise - something we never did well before.

Cry all you want. A part of you is gone. Change it hard. Fear of what's going to happen is hard.

Tears are good for your face, they moisturize.

You'll get thru this. A day at a time. An hour, a minute.

Suddenly you'll be on the other side - and telling someone who's crying,

it'll be ok.

Thanks for the encouragment everyone. I am feeling much better now that my pain is down. The first few days I was in pain and not being able to drink my Protein or anything else and have it taste half normal.

I am feeling physically and mentally better.

Thanks again...

Shelly, glad you are doing better. This board is great when our emotions jump to What HAVE I DONE, I just don't feel right. It may be easy surgery but it still is major surgery. And major changes.

It is normal and even 5 months post-op I have to say things just don't taste the same and sometimes some food smells really bad. I can eat steak but I don't like it anymore. (could be chewing the heck out of it, to some pulverized unrecognizable bit, does lose some satisfaction.)

My husband keeps laughing at me because when we go out for my former favorite foods, I ask him "did they prepare this right, it just doesn't taste as good." He keeps telling me it is me that has changed! Eating slowly takes something away from the experience that just stuffing my face gave me pre-banding. Thankfully.

Try to tell yourself it is ok. This is quite an emotional thing. My first non pain related meltdown is when I strained some spaghettios in week two and snuck a bite--although I chewed it until it disintegrated.

We have all hated ourselves for too long--we know the fight. You did this because you were brave and had the courage to stand up and admit you needed help.

That crap in our head comes from people who don't understand. Hang in there!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
