amandam 0 Posted September 24, 2012 Hi everyone, I'm brand new here and hoping someone may have experienced what I'm going through. I had VSG on 9/18 as well as a hernia removal. I had no issues recovering, no sickness, no vomiting, was up and walking within 8 hours of coming out of surgery, haven't needed pain meds after leaving the hospital. The problem I'm having is I can't drink anything without severe pain. Water causes the most pain. I am on a liquid diet until 9/27 though my surgeon told me if I was feeling hungry this week I could start soft foods.Friday and Saturday I suffered through drinking and was terribly uncomfortable. Today I experimented and did a liquid lunch and had some soft foods for dinner (potato and cottage cheese). I felt terrible all afternoon, after eating dinner (soft foods) I felt no pain. It seems so strange to me that Water would hurt so bad but I've tried several different things (broths, Protein shakes, warm tea, cream Soups etc - they all hurt). Anyone experience this? Any advice? I'm going to call my surgeon in the morning but would love to know if I'm just super weird or if others have gone through this.
deltadawn817 106 Posted September 24, 2012 If you drink too fast it will HURT. I am 6 months out and if I drink to much to fast OUCH!. I also for some reason post op till about week 8 could not drink anything cold. It hurt to. I had everything at room temp, warm or hot. I did find it really odd as Popsicle's were fine. scaredoftheunknown 95 Posted September 24, 2012 Yes drink too much or to fast will cause pain. I do real good if I drink tea. If I want Water I'll heat it up just slightly and that does the job.
iegal 460 Posted September 24, 2012 Agree with previous poster about drinking tepid Water or Decaf tea. This really helped me out those first few weeks. Are you on a PPI to help reduce stomach acid? If not you might want to ask surgeon for a prescription. Congrats on being sleeved. Hang in there, things will get better slowly.
