Thank you !! Thank you!! Thank you!! I am a CRNA so hearing from an OR nurse that he is a good surgeon....well you know how that makes me feel, because i know that we only go to the ones we think are capable!! He did a friend of mine and that is why i want to go to him. She has not had any problems and is 96 pounds down since february!! I am just going to the seminar on oct 1, but i think i have done enough research that i know i what i want...the vsg...just trying to find a little more out about him....lol. i called my insurance and they require pre op medical dieting, but no specific time frame, so i've got an appt with my pcmd monday to get that started. Also, a UKMD that i know said she would let dr. steiner operate on her, though she didn't really agree with the sleeve.....she just lost a lot of weight on her own of course...lol...let's keep in touch..i am in lexington occasionally....live in somerset....good luck and hopefully there will be less of us soon!!! oh, one more question...my family is not very supportive becuase they are freaked out about me getting a leak, infection, etc.....do you know how often steiner has had a significant complication?

lol.. your very welcome! i did the seminar in early sept. don't remember specific numbers, but do remember their mortality percentage is like 0.3% working in health care that nothing is guaranteed and everyone has a chance of complications.... but hoepfully we will be 2 of the lucky ones.. lol i am planning on my surgery being the beginning of next april. not telling many people because i don't really want to hear their opinions. my dr.ok with it.... my parents and best friend are very supportive.

you may want to take a small notebook to take notes if your family has lots of questions. it's a lot of info you will get that day.... good luck and let me know how it goes!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
