Endoscopy And Colonoscopy Fearful

Recommended Posts

Banded in 2007... Having some issues now with the band but I never reached goal. I lost 75 lbs but only half way to goal.

Now ...I have to have a screening colonoscopy so they added that to the endoscopy that I need to have to find out the problem with my band. I am totally scared to death..afraid they won't put me out enough, afraid of what they will find wrong with the band and I don't have insurance that will pay to have it fixed and mostly totally freaked they might find cancer while doing the colonoscopy!!!!

I don't know why I can't calm down about this. I spent 15 years in the medical profession and a self admitted control person. I guess I need someone to tell me their good stories and sooth my fears.

Thanks to all

I've had both and was similarly nervous. Both procedures were really easy. I remember bits and pieces but no pain or discomfort at all. It was actually a good experience. The worst part for me was a three day clear liquid diet followed by a bowel prep liquid. That was unpleasant.

Thanks for answering. My prep isn't days of clear liquid only one and tomorrow the horrible bowel prep. I guess I've read too much and keep my mind from going to the scary what ifs.

I just dozed off and had a nightmare about this whole thing so I'm up again.

It was nice of you to post.

Thank you

I only had the endoscopy and was so worried. It ended up being a breeze! They give you a sedative, put some spray in your mouth that you are told to swallow and presto you have no feeling of the scope at all. You'll do fine.

Thanks so much for you all taking the time to answer...something what any of us need is a shoulder or a sympathic ear. I'm not as scared about the endo but still scared about the colonoscopy. Do they usually find poloyps and have to send them off or is that not usual.

I had both EGD and colonoscopy done at the same time. Polyp tissue was taken for biopsy. All can back benign. Dr. said that with sleeve they can go back and take out any time--not the case with by

Oops, the dog jumped on me. It is not the case with gastric bypass.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
