I am three weeks postop on blended food. I haven't lost a pound in over a week but total I have lost 20 since preop diet. I had about 70 to lose total. How many calories should I be having at this stage? I am getting 500-600 and 50-70 Protein. Am I in a stall or not getting enough calories?

Hi Karen :-) Have you started incorporating exercise yet? I wonder too if that is enough calories.... Hmmmm... I haven't actually started counting calories yet. Twenty pounds is amazing in less than a month!!!!!! Great job there!!!! It's great to hear you are doing well. Since you and I have lower bmi's I wonder if your body just says I need a break from loosing and just need to maintain for a bit. I have definitely seen on here where lower bmi's loose at a much slower rate. WHO KNOWs ;-) I think you are on the right track!

I haven't started exercise and I know I need to! The 20 pounds was since I started preop diet so it's been about 5 weeks

Ahhhhh.... I would love to hear that a walk around the block would be the cure to all of this and it just might be that easy. Try it for a week- I bet you will get some pretty fantastic results.

I am 3.5 wks and with pre-op 16lbs down and 9 lbs lost post op (1st wk lost only) I have been stalled. But my fat mass is going down and muscle mass is going up. I was wearing 22-24 and now wearing 18-20 tight 16. So my body is doing something correct.

Here is a good explanation of what's going on with these stalls -

http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html

You are probably doing OK on calories, though the most popular plan is for 600-800 calories, and being a relative lightweight, you can probably afford a few more calories if they come your way (but it's probably not worth getting too worried about it at this point - more calories will come your way as you progress up the food chain. Hydration (water - sip, sip, sip) and Protein are your biggest concerns at this point.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
