Drinking While Eating.

Recommended Posts

I have a very hard time trying not to drink while I am eating. When I do make it thru a meal without drinking I have a hard time waiting the 30 minutes after I eat to take a drink. Does anyone else have this problem?????

Hi! I have an auto-immune (Sjogrens Syndrome) which affects moisture-secreting glands. Basically, I have no saliva. It was a big concern if i could have the sleeve because of the no drinking. I can't go 10 minutes w/o drinking, nevermind 30-90 minutes.

The surgeon has no problem with me drinking. I just have to take very small sips and be really sure I eat my Protein first. (Still working on that!). I probably get hungry faster than other sleevers because I may be pushing my food thru faster, but i just eat smaller meals more often.

So, the long and the short of it is, if you are uncomfortable not drinking, then take a sip. A small one! Just realize that you may have to adapt your eating pattern and keep a close eye on your caloric intake because it could be easier to overeat.

:-)

I think it can be the same if you have low blood pressure (like me) or diabetes etc... There's a YouTube that explains the long and short of why its generally not done:

I had a hard time with this to begin with. Now I set a timer on my phone immediately when I'm done eating. It helps to know exactly when I'll be able to drink again. It also helped to put the drink on another table, not get one until 30 min was up, or just keep it far out of reach. It's difficult sometimes, but you get used to it. I was one of those people who would drink a ton while eating so it was a big adjustment, but it gets better.

I have a really tough time adjusting to this too and can't seem to get through a meal without at least a 2-3 *very* small sips.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
