how long does it take you too feel hungry again?

Recommended Posts

I have a question........after eating how long does it take for you to get hungry again? I seem to get hungry about 2 or 3 hours later. I also haven't been getting in my daily intake of Water and that's really killing me. I am thirsty ALL the time but I just can't seem to get it in. Before I felt this level of restriction I NEVER had a problem getting it. I could still chug it down....especially when it was nice and cold but now I can't do that anymore and I'm feeling it. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I am starting to discover all sorts of new things with this level and sometimes it's SOOOOO DAMN FRUSTERATING that I wonder why I went and got banded........but then I put on a pair of pants that are too big or someone sees me and says "Wow you look great" and then I remember why.

I haven't been restricted yet. But I get hungry in about 3 hours. Sometimes, I'm ravenous! We have a lot to learn yet, don't we?

3-4 hours for me. Someone else mentioned that it's harder for them to drink now than to eat. I noticed that too with my last fill. My theory is that food compacts with the stomach's churning action to push it through the band, and liquids disperse. I have no idea if that's it, but the only reason I could think of that made sense.

My gallon of Water a day dropped to half a gallon. I just can't seem to get more in than that without concentrating every moment on drinking. So I get a quart in on the 20 minute drive to work, and quart in on the 20 minute drive home. At work I drink lots of hot tea.

I recall something from an old Weight Watchers meeting (Yep I said the WW word) about how this particular leader said we could count any clear liquid that did not have calories towards our Water goal. That included tea and crystal light. She also said it is always best to get as much as possible of pure bonified water. If you drink a lot of tea, I am sure your really probably getting a good quantity of water. I have a terrible time getting all of my water in too but have been working on it a lot. Its getting better and better. It takes me about 3 ish hours to get hungry between meals but I have no fill and am at 6 1/2 weeks post surgery. T

It's about 3 hours for me, too, these days. I think that's more or less normal, actually. When a meal consists of four ounces of turkey, why are we surprised when we get hungry again three or four hours later? That's what Snacks are for.

Snacks for me are Protein Bars. Water is a hassle for me as well but I have this huge bottle that holds 50 oz of water. I figure if I drink at least one and a half of them a day then I am doing good. Sometimes I drink two of them. On those days I have this glassy eyed look on my face. It lasts till I can pee. Then I just roll on over to the bottle of water again and start all over. neverending story isn't it?

I've been eating Protein bars for Breakfast, and I'm thinking that's just not enough. I get hungry at 10:30 (right about NOW, in fact!) after eating at about 7:30.

This morning I had both a Protein Bar and 8 oz of yogurt, and I'm definitely still getting the pangs right about now.

Penni, have you worked with FitDay yet? I'm having fun with it, but remain mystified at their idea of a decent calorie count. According to them I burn over 3000 calories a day just existing, and to lose weight at the rate I want I should be taking in more than 2000 calories a day. How is that possible?

I have gotten pretty good with fitday also. I haven't gotten the "purchased' version but seem to do fine with the free one. recipes are a pain in the butt. I initially had to do each ingredient one by and and divide it by the number of portions I thought it made. I then found that if you have a recipe that at least has the nutricianal facts you can just custom do your own nutricianal portion thingy which makes it easier. Also if its something you have more than once the custom thing gets saved and can just be pulled down and reselected for a different day.

I noticed that basal, lifestyle and activity excercise thing too. In fact I asked a nurse friend of mine about it today. She said that the basal did in fact just represent the energy it takes to live, pump blood, digest food, etc. Lifestyle I guess is just want it says but it seems I put a lot of my lifestyle type things as activities. Don't entirely get it either, so let me know if someone else does.

Im glad to know that others think that the calorie burning thing on fit day is kinda wierd! I can;t get that figured out either. But otherwise I love it thanks for suggesting it! ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
