High Protein - Low Fat SOLID Foods!

Recommended Posts

Hello! I seem to have a problem keeping my Protein up without my fat intake being way up there. I log everything that I eat into fitday.com and am noticing that I often consume a higher percentage of fat than either protein or carbs. I am losing weight, however it is pretty slow. What are your favorite high protein - low in fat SOLID foods? Thanks guys!

Just about any lean meat - fish, chicken, turkey, lamb, shellfish, etc. That's about 80% of what I eat. Tofu, turkey pepperoni, melba toast w/ hummus, etc.

O, I fogot....shrimp! I buy the sacks of fully cooked frozen shrimp at Sam's....all you have to do is thaw them out and eat - salads, sauce, cocktail sauce, etc.

I eat tons of chicken and eggs. I have scrambled eggs and bacon every morning for Breakfast. That gets a lot of Protein in at the beginning of the day. Then I eat chicken, chicken, chicken. I hate fish, so that is no good. But I can cook chicken about 20 ways. I also eat some carbs because you need carbs to keep the old brain working. I got a French cookbook which is wonderful. I make Fench scalloped potatoes which are heavy on garlic and milk, but taste incredible. I have a lot of trouble eating beef, but I bake pork chops with Water to soften them up and then broil them to brown them, and they are good. I recommend salt, pepper and garlic powder on chicken. I learned the garlic trick from my friend whose mother was French. It makes chicken taste a LOT better. I also make chicken and dressing with Stovetop stuffing. I have to jazz up the stuffing, but it's good and I can eat the stuffing without throwing up. Here's the recipe:

Dice up half an onion and 1 stick of celery with additional celery leaves

Saute the onion and celery very slowly in real butter until the onions turn brown and the celery is soft

Mix up the Stovetop stuffing according to directions.

Dump the onions and celery into the Stovetop stuffing and mix up well.

Add sage, salt, pepper, and poultry seasoning to taste.

Put boneless chicken breasts in a greased pan. I use Pam.

Put the stuffing around them.

Cover and bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.

Uncover and let the chicken breasts brown a bit.

Eat and enjoy.

I sent this recipe to my friend who had lapband surgery the same day as I did. She is going to try it this weekend. Let me know if you like it because I have a lot more recipes for chicken breasts.

Lots of seafood, sashimi, fresh steamed salmon, canned salmon and tuna, artificial crab, shrimp. Flavoured snack tofu, low fat cottage cheese, eggs, low fat cheeses and other dairy like yogurt. turkey or chicken pepperoni, chicken hot dogs and some other lower fat deli meats. small serving of nuts a couple of times a week, or the occasional spoon of Peanut Butter (I buy natural, where the oil floats to the top, but instead of mixing the oil in remove it).

FWIW, the best deli mean nutritionally is "Boar's Head" brand. I did a LOT of work on researching this a few years ago when I was on Atkins. Boar's Head is the best about avoiding fillers, using whole meats, etc. Of course it's more expensive, and one of the harder brands to find, but well worth it if you can. :)

I love vegetarian meats like chicken nuggets, fake meat crumbles, etc. Low, low fat, low calories, and very high Protein. If I make veggie chili with "Quorn" brand fake meat crumbles, no one can tell the difference between that and real beef. It's great! These veggie meats are also nice and soft and go down beautifully.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! Keep them coming! I am currently trying to learn to love low-fat cottage cheese. I enjoy the Breakstones Cottage Doubles (low-fat cottage cheese and fruit sauce). The strawberry is awesome. Probably gonna replace yogurt in my diet with these.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
