Everyone talks about the leak test but no one says how yucky it is. You haven't had anything to drink or est and the. They give u this white nasty stuff and tell you to drink it all. It's pretty scary because you just don't know what to expect. Then it takes terrible and then when you pass it!!! Omg cramps are awful. Am I the only one that felt this way.

My doc did not give me a leak test, he must have checked when he was inside. I asked about it and he told me that he could tell if i had a leak by the Fluid that was in my jp drain. He told me that everything was looking good and not to worry. So i did not have to take the nasty stuff. Sorry you had to go through that.

Rybecca - I completely agree. I almost wanted to vomit. And mine, they also had me going up and down on this xray machine, THAT did not help.

Never want to go through that again!

OMG! The leak test was the worst part of the whole procedure, My stomach was slow to move the contrast into the bowel, so it started cramping severely and I ended up vomiting up about half of the contrast liquid. Let me tell you, there are no words for how painfully awful that was.

I did throw up the contrast after my first leak test. It showed my stomach was super swollen and so I had to have another one the following day. So so nasty.

Wow.. the hospital where my surgery occurred had a machine that I stepped up on and stood during the test....the equipment moved up and down while I stood there swallowing the liquid. It was very fast and yes the barium tasted awful...but thankfully it was over very quickly...and yeah I threw up on the way back to my room. And that was the ONLY time I have thrown up since my surgery. Thank goodness I am two days away from week 3...moist and soft foods. I have grown tired of Protein Drinks , Jello and SF popsicles, and broth. I can't wait for the variety!

Wow! If they told me that I had to do that again, I think I would have screamed. I'm so sorry you had to go through that twice!

I totally agree, it was sooo nasty I could not hold it down at all. So they made me try again the next day, same thing I could not do it. So I had to stay 4 days in hospital and they finally did X-rays because I wasn't trying it again. That was the worst part ever!

My doc did one in surgery but then I had another one the next day. The radiologist decided not to give me barium bu something else. I only had to take three little separate sips. Gross but my experience wasn't as bad as I expected it to be.

In Mexico, my barium was blue. Ugghhh! I would take tiny sips and hold my nose. I actually cheated, and threw the last little bit int he sink..LOL!

P.s Don't tell my Doctor.

It was horrible! I took it in a quick shot and it felt like it was a huge mass right below my sternum. VERY painful for a few minutes.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
