Five Weeks Out... Slow Loss?

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd check in with others who might have been in the same starting range. I am five weeks post-op today. My weight day of surgery was 240 and my weight today is 225. That's 15 pounds in five weeks, averaging 3 pounds per week, which would normally be really good, but post-op and 500 calories a day, it seems rather slow.

Would anyone in the same range be willing to share a similar experience and provide some comfort? I have no issues with liquids and get 80-100 ounces per day of Water and Decaf chai. I get 75-100 grams of Protein, and my carb level is around 25-30 grams.

NUT says I am on target for my starting weight, and am curious about the success of others, and if I should be doing anything differently. I do feel pretty great, and have lost 20 inches and have been able turn my cpap machine down 3 notches... so I'm not complaining about my progress... I'm just curious.

Thanks lovelies! Have a great day.

It's so frustrating to have an expectation of losing a massive amount of weight right after surgery, and then to lose only 15 lbs in 5 weeks! LOL Actually you are doing great! Right on track! Instead of worrying about whether or not you've lost enough weight in comparison to others, try sitting back and enjoy watching the inches just disappear! That's exciting, especially when you can get into way smaller cloths. It's going to happen whether or not you obsess over it or not. So please just let it happen and enjoy each day with this wonderful tool called the sleeve! YOU ARE DOING GREAT! Keep it up. :)

Hey, last time I went to Weight Watchers I would lose a pound and a half and then gain a pound the next week. I'll be real happy if I'm losing 3 lbs a week for 5 weeks. I get sleeved on Wednesday. I seem to be a slow loser now already - I have been on the Pre-Op diet for a week and only lost about a pound and a half.

Pinky, I was a slow loser before, too. In fact, in the six month diet I lost 17 lbs in 20 days, and then gained and lost the same 2-4 lbs every week for the next four months. I shall just be grateful that the scale is no longer rising. Thanks to you and Ms. Skinneness for the encouragement. Just what I needed!

I am another slow looser.

For the first week after surgery I lost only 4.8lb. today is my 2nd week anniversary :) and I lost only 5.8lb and I even notice that I lost this amount as of yesterday but yesterday I was on just clear liquid and didn't loose anything at all. so I hope when ( started today) I will add more normal food to my diet the process would start.

I know it seems slow but I think its right on target. I lost 12 lbs on the pre surgery diet. I'm 10 days post op and have lost another 5 lbs. For me, I used an online website to figure how many calories I need to maintain my current weight (2600!). So for right now, if I'm getting about 600 cal. a day, I'm using about 2000 cal a day. That x's 7 days is 14000. Divide that by a pound of calories (3500) that's 4 lbs a week. I'm pretty sure my math is on target! Anyway, I think anywhere from 3 - 5 lbs a week for a while is what any of us can expect. Just think by Christmas we could be down 30-40 more lbs! Hang in there - you can't help but lose weight now!

Do you mind sharing the website? I would be curious to do the math for my body too. Also, I am loosing in numbers slower than I would like to see, but I feel and look a lot better than the numbers say. Also, I am ok with loosing like I am because then my skin has a chance to keep up, I don't want another surgery to get rid of skin. I know I will loose it!

Ok, it says I use 1700 calories if I am inactive, 1900 if I am somewhat active, 2050 if I am active and 2400 if I am very active. I do have to admit I'm probably inactive. I have knee problems and find it hard to walk more than 5 minutes without a lot of pain in my knees. I need to start going to the swimming pool to bump that up to 2400. I can exercise for an hour in the Water.

Currently I'm getting about 800 calories a day - so I have a deficit of about 900 calories a day x 7 days would be 6300 calories which is almost 2 pounds. Which sounds like just about what I'm losing. After surgery I'll probably go down somewhat more at first since I probably won't even be able to drink 5 Protein Shakes a day for the 800 calories. Just so long as it's gone and doesn't come back I can live with 2 or 3 pounds a week.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
