Hi Everyone,

For the first time in a long time, I want you to put yourself first. We all have taken care of everyone around us always putting ourselves at the end of the list year after year. It is time to STOP doing that. You are a wonderful, loving caring, beautiful, intelligent person. It is time you took control of your own life and that means getting serious about losing the weight forever. So, many of us have failed at diets and losing weight that we think that we will just give up and live the rest of our lives as an unhealthy fat person—YES I use the word fat because I was fat. confused_smile.gif

I am here to tell you that I did that for many years, then one day I woke up and realized that I had earned the right to have a good and healthy and happy life. So I started my search as to how I was going to do this and be successful. After 6 months of asking 100’s of question from people, doing my research on what I wanted and where I was going; I got brave enough to have “Sleeve” surgery and my choice was Dr. Aceves. He is fabulous and I highly recommend him.heart.gif

This was the best things I have EVER done for myself. That was 4 years ago; I lost 105 pounds and have kept it off. YES, I did something that I have never done before and that is to lose the weight and KEEP IT OFF! It is an amazing way to live. I made a lot of lifestyle changes and I never consider myself on a diet. Yes, it requires work and effort on your part. It is NOT a miracle cure, but it does work.angel.gif

It will work for you too! So stop sitting on the fence and making excuses why you are giving days of your life away being unhealthy, unhappy. I was 63 when I did this and I am now 67. I walk between 3 and 4 miles 6 day a week. If I can do this you can too. dance.gif

If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I am here to help you and support you every step of the way.clap.gif

If you have recently had this done, I am also here to help you with any questions that you might have.cool2.gif

Yeah for those of you who have had weight loss surgery and know how I feel!!!heart.gif

Hugs,

Suzanne

Thank you for your post. Can you share what your eating habits are now? Does the sleeve stretch over time where you feel you can eat more than in the beginning? I"m only 3 weeks out but feel like I may never be able to eat 'real food' again. When I try and eat or even drink a Protein Shake sometimes I get a 'stuck' feeling in my lower esphogus.

Suzanne, thank you for sharing such wonderful information and caring with us. It is great seeing someone several years out still maintaining. I don't often love myself and put myself first, but I'm working on that now:)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
