Feeding The Husband

Recommended Posts

I'm pre-op but wondering....how did you all handle preparing meals for your family's during the first months after surgery? Was it an emotional ordeal?

With no appetite , was it just no big deal? And what about family get togethers before you were eating again, did you feel left out or sad?

I appreciate your responses. Thanks.

i premade a few dinners and put them in the freezer, they just had to be put in the oven to cook. And since my husband isn't very good in the cooking department i made sure the freezer was stocked with things like chicken nuggets, and that i had lots of canned chicken and tuna. By about 2 weeks out i was usually able to cook dinner, and would put what they ate in my bullet.

my husband has had to pick up some of the meal preparations. i have been so tired/nauseauted/emotional that making meals is the last task i need to face. don't be afraid to ask for help. in regards to family gatherings, i have just steered clear for the time being. it is just too much to face so soon after surgery. hope this helps. good luck with your surgery. :)

The first week I had pre-made alot of dinners for my husband and son. Week 2 was easy stuff... velvetta box meals, etc. Week 3 (puree) i cooked more normal since i could mash up some. I'm almost to week four and I LIKE to cook normal food for my husband to take to work. I am not hungry so it really doesn't bother me. Yea I wish I could eat it but I'm fine that I can't. Tonight i made him a sausage sub with sauteed onions, jalapenos, and bell pepper with mayo and cheese.... yum! and some apple pie my mom sent over.

I'm also the nut that watched the food network like every day while recovering. Lol. I appreciate good food much more now.

I have no appetite but I still cook for my hubby because he loves my cooking. I fixed him a nice meal the day befoe surgery which would last for a week and then made him fresh meals ever since, just in much smaller amounts. I love to cook so I do it for me and him..

I never cooked (I can, just hadn't) and since my surgery on the 11th I've been cooking and baking up a storm for other people. All of my pintrest pins are new recipes that I can't wait to make. It doesn't even remotely bother me and allows me to make my boyfriend and father eat healthier because I'm cooking from scratch.

I've been thinking about this too...my husband commented he will "starve to death" once I get sleeved! <_< I've been tempted to point out the fact that he could lose a few pounds and get healthier as well but that's just mean, isn't it?

I hope he will be patient during at least the first few weeks post-op until I can figure out my own new eating style without having to cater hand and foot (and belly!) to him like I always have...we will see I guess

Go to Dream Dinners and pre make a bunch. Then they just thaw and heat. Well worth it while you recover.

I for some reason enjoy cooking for him even more. It's challenging, but seeing the food and not trying it, or even feeling hungry for it, is so rewarding to me. I usually cook for him every other night, since it's just him and our 1 year old. Lots of leftovers. I've just been doing simple things though, homemade mac n cheese, kielbasa, fajitas, simple is the best way!

I also cook for my husband all the time. Sometimes, the food smells and looks so good that I indulge myself 1 spoonful to satisfy my curiosity. It's not like I am eating a platter of food (like I used to) so I don't feel bad with having just a taste.

I loved cooking after my surgery just as much as I did before! Maybe even more. I used a lot of WW recipes and WLS websites that have yummy recipes that way we are both eating healthy and I'm not double cooking!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
